BB 396 Headers?

Does anyone know what headers for a 396, if any, will fit on our K5's without modifing anything?...i.e., cutting the frame. A friend of mine, who's been teasing me for years now, is finally getting rid of his rebuilt 396. He's selling it to me for $1000 which is a pretty good deal knowing that he has over $3500 into it. He's only put 500 miles on it since the rebuild. He's quite the packrat and I think his wife has had enough, so he's getting rid of some stuff. I'm pretty new to the engine scene, so I've been trying to do my homework on swapping out my 350 with a big block 396. Hopefully it will go smoothly. I just thought I heard something about headers not clearing the frame...Thanks in advance...
 
The post you heard about was with a SBC, not a BBC.
I have a set of hooker comp headers coming for my
K5, haven't installed them, but I hope they work out.

Well I put Thorleys on my454 and did not need to cut the frame. BUTT Greg put thorleys in his 72 on his 396 and he did need to cut the fram a tiny bit. duno why they are differnt?? Thorleys don't fit all that great and the drives side hangs kinda low /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
I use Hedmen EliteSires on my SBC and thoes headers fit great, duno how well the BBC version would fit but They were my second choice when I was shopping.

I'm using Dynomax Cermacoated headers, part number 86022, designed for the 67-87 BBC 2WD. The Dynomax headers for 73-87 BBC 4WD would not work for me. I did have to grind the passenger side frame a little for clearance and it will take a substantial bend in the exhaust to clear the transfer case on one side.
 
Hmmm...When you guys say it will take a "little" grinding to get them to fit, how much is a little?
Yukon Jack, I've had my eye on those Dynomax headers. You wouldnt happen to have a picture of the "substantial bend" would you?

Passenger side will need to come up and over the Rockwell T221.

Only had to grind off about 1/4" of the frame - no problem with a 4 1/2" grinder.

I have Hoker Super Comps on mine with no problems whatsoever. Not sure if it makes a difference but I do have small block mounts on mine because they were available. I think the only difference is they either let the motor sit an 1/2 - 1" higher or lower...cant remember
 
Man, I dont think I can throw down the cash for some Thorley's...But those sure are sweet headers. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
I was hoping to find a set of cheaper ceramic headers that will clear without any driveline interference. After seeing the pics you guys posted, I dont have any problem with "customizing" the frame though. Yukon Jack, why wont the 73-87 Dynomax headers work?

The passenger side of the 73-up worked fine but there was no way the drivers side would work - major interference.
 
If my failing memory serves me right, I think the bends were so wrong I couldn't even fish them in to attempt to fit them. Hitting the frame just trying to putting them in.
