I run 40 series flowmasters dual exhaust. The 350 with stock manifolds always had a great aggressive throaty tone. Now the 454 with long tube headers and same exhaust sounds wimpy. Much quieter and less aggressive. I miss that distinct sound

What diameter pipes? You are flowing a lot more exhaust with the 454. It will fill the Flowmasters passages and quiet them down. If you are using 2.5" with a 350 then the 454 will need 3-3.5" to sound as agressive.

Okay 2" is way small for a 454. 2.5" will be louder and give lots of torque or you could put 3" on it and it will be much more aggressive sounding, but may be a bit less torque if the motor is unmodified.

I thought the pipe diameter was bigger than 2'', but I went out and measured when you
asked. I will be pricing some new exhaust this weekend, I may go with different mufflers. I thought I remember reading somewhere that 2.5 was ideal for a BB.

I run 3" dual super 40's on lightly modified 400 (aftermarket heads, RV cam, intake, and long tube headers) and believe me its AGGRESSIVE sounding.

Edit: If it was my truck I would do 2.5" to the mufflers and 3" out the back. 3" is really hard to get routed around the transfer case.

Im running true dual 3" on my 496, super 44's, into 4x24" tips in front of the tires......that'll get the aggressive tone your after ;)

I had a 454 headers 2.5 exhaust and cheep turbo mufflers on my old 78 short box, tail pipes came out behind the rear tires... it sounded sweet.:D

I have a cheesy vid of my old 84 on youtube. 454 headers, 3" flexpipe to 2 1/2" fake flows with no tailpipes. Anybody that knew anything about cars/motors knew this wasn't a small block.

Thinking of goin with the Summit chambered mufflers, the racing street and strip. Found a few vids with these, but the sound is always crappy. Does anyone run these or know someone who has them?

Ended up going with 2.5 to the muffler 3 out the back. I went the thrush welded chambered mufflers. What a difference, it's sounds bad arse!

they have a bunch of these type of clips on their youtube channel

Glad ya picked em thrush:thumb:

I put thrush welded's On the ol mans 77 camper special with a 454, stock other than rv cam. 2.25" from manifolds back. It has one hell of a deep throaty idle, sounds just wicked.

Put the same mufflers on my 383 in my car, sounds bad Azz as well.

They are def a great muffuffler!
