BB09 trail runs and leaders

I believe Scott has me penciled in to lead Sevenmile Rim on Saturday. And I dimly remember there being something about me working Gold Bar Rim on Friday.

I don't remember whether there's anything on my plate for Sunday. I might tag along on the Shafer run, but then dash off onto White Rim and sleep in the NP somewhere (that is, if I can get a camp site assignment...) before heading back home on Monday.

Michael, I think you are remembering correctly. I'd have to go back and see who I hit up about doing the trails. I'm planning to lead Metal Masher, Flat Iron, and Strike Ravine. Chaddy, I can't remember which one I'd talked to you about. I think it was probably the Trifecta or Pritchett.

We might need to think how we classify Gold Bar Rim. I'm not sure open diffs on 33s are gonna cut it anymore to make it up Buttscratcher Ledge. It had grown taller when I was there at the end of April, as the material at the bottom has washed out. And the attempt at a bypass/ramp had been either washed or winched out of the way. Most of the dirt on the upper half of the trail is also gone, so that it's mostly slickrock now.

Remember when we took a stock blazer on 33s up there a few years ago? I'm not sure that'd be such a good idea with the way the trail is now.

You'll be receiving a proof the trail decription page for the updated website here soon. :deal: I was figuring you might have some more up to date info on some of the trails. Right now I have it listed as difficult based on the trail description PDF you did for BB07.

I think the shortest tire we had in '08 was Suntadz's with 35's. I know he had a rear locker, I'm not sure about the front. All 3 trucks made it up. You are right, that obstacle is the big show stopper on Gold Bar.

Just checked the descriptinos and we might be okay. Under "Difficult" it says: tires 33-35" or higher, one locker, two is better

I've done Golden Spike and WipeOutHill at the end of April

I haven't noticed anything really different on the Poison Spider part to the Golden Spike turnoff, except that the switchbacks up to the mesa and some after the Waterfall are more washed out, and therefore have more rocks. Golden Spike itself seem to have more exposed rock, less dirt up towards the rim. There appears now to be a legal bypass for a ledge turning down from the rim midway. There are a few more holes that can make for some serious offcamber situations if you don't pay attention, again probably due to water washing away the dirt. As I said, the top half of Gold Bar is a slickrock trail now, and Buttscratcher has become taller.

I haven't prerun the first part of SevenMile Rim (but there were never any obstacles to speak of), only the part by the Buttes, the offcamber section, and WipeOut Hill itself. Once we make it past the offcamber part, I figure we can decide (based on who's on this run in what equipment and depending on comfort level...) whether to drop down WipeOut Hill and go out to 313, or to head out via Tusher Wash to the dirt road and 191.

I'll help out where ever needed, lead, mid, tail, what ever.;)
Cool, we appreciate it. I think we have leaders covered, but we always need tailgunners on the runs - especially if you have a CB.

Oh ya, all our member are required to have a good working C.B.:D

You can check us out at www.totalkarnage.net double click on the
Logo to get to the meat and potatos. We've got a Burb build going
in the chevy section that's allmost done, waiting on the D.O.M to get here.
On most of the other sites I'm "D-rail" you know, like a train wreck.
One of our members has been rebuilding a house for (2) years (by himself)
and didn't want to fix or wheel his burb till the house is finished. So, we finally
did an intervention and kidnaped his rig and took it to FAT CAMP. It needed
to shed several hundred pounds and a few feet of ass drag. I hope to talk him
into BB-09 since he hasn't been since 04 or 05.

I'm always surprised how many don't have CB's. Without one, you miss all the funny chatter going on during the mundane parts of the trail. :haha:

Gotta have a CB. And there's always the option to turn it off...:D

Back to the original question: How are we doing re leaders/trails? And besides Friday/Gold Bar Rim, and Saturday/Sevenmile Rim, did you have me lined up for anything else?

I haven't made any reservations yet, and that idea of spending Sunday night in the National Park is growing on me. Or was there a meeting on Sunday night?

I hadn't planned on anything for Sunday night; we usually start heading home - at least as far as Grand Junction.

Here's what I know for certain on trail leaders:

Friday:
Hell's Revenge: KTM
Metal Masher: MrK5
Gold Bar: jms

Saturday
Seven Mile: jms
Flat Iron: MrK5
Trifecta: Chaddy & 38377k5
Pritchett: miniwally

Sunday
Shafer: fred2mihi
Strike Ravine: MrK5
Pritchett: ?????

Those are based on some PM's from back in January. Except for Chris (38377k5) on the Trifecta. He offered to help out, but I couldn't find any discussion of which trail. :doah: I figure a long day like the Trifecta can use 2 leaders.

Scott insert me where ever needed on Friday. I don't know the status of my family (all going or not) so I may be 1 seat short of the whole family fitting in the buggy but I will have other seats for the kid to ride in the whole weekend so I can do whatever.

If you don't mind, it would nice if you could do Hell's since you have experience with the technical obstacles like the Escalator and the tubs.

Time to build a 4-seat buggy. Or at least a 3-seat.

My buggy plans change faster than the days of the week these days but I think the general plan is to build a 4 seat chassis in the next two years and transfer all of my stuff over. Hopefully I can increase wheel travel front and rear as well as keep at the same weight or lighter for a 4 seater.

Perhaps the current chassis will become the full time race vehicle?

Hells is fine with me. I think I can remember all of the correct lines. It's been two years since I was there.:eek1:
