1/2 ton status
more than 2 years ago now, i bought a k30, I knew as sack, the 1 ton chevy
there was a bad accident on the highway, and i lost him, it was terrible, i only had him about a year
never thought after everything i put into it that i could lose it all so quickly, it truly sucked, and i had NO money to build anything else
had to save up money and look for a deal on a truck, i knew i would have to do all my hard work over again, right after i had just gotten sack to where he should be
$650 got a working suburban, it needed prettymuch everything
it was looking at getting a new engine and tranny, after some tuning i put sacks axles under it, bought tires and rims to replace the bad ones, wasted so much money, its truly so sad
went ahead and herculined the whole forward floor and put in full power bucket seats out of a jeep grand cherokee, leather
full rattle can paint job, thanks krylon, also did the grill custom
flexing the stock suspension w/ 10 bolts and no windows
then came the lifting and axle swapping
14bff rear d60 front w/ gov-loc in the rear and 4.56 gears all around
front lift-
8" skyjacker front springs
6" extended front shackles
rear lift-
5.5" superlift springs
ORD shackle flip kit
DIY 5" extended shackles
ORD zero rates w/ the axle moved forward
tires-
38 x 15.50 x 16r interco SSR's
steering is sky-manufacturing crossover and high steer kit
i know some guys will hate me when they read this portion.... lol
im sorry, but i dont like tbi
im a carb kid
so i went to work at building an engine
the block is a 84 350 from a utility dually, formerly owned by a friends dad,
the engine will have stock rods in it, they dont seem to have any issues, i will also be using the stock crank / water pump / alternator / steering pump / ect
cam is a crane cam truck cam, i think the specs are Lift: .440''/.454''
dual roller timing chain
came across a set of 492's unknown condition
drove like 45 mins to check em out, ended up buying them for 100 bux, missing a valve and spring assembly
turns out they are dual camel hump casting and are out of a 1970 LT1 engine, they have 2.02 intake valves with 1.60 exaust valves, the tops have been machined to accept a 1.430 dual valve spring and are in great condition, cleaned them and ordered parts to revalve them, all the needed parts including new valves which are a full set of stainless steel
so then i began ordering the new stuff...
all the good gaskets
full set of dual comp cam dual valve springs w/ baffle
retainers w/ 10 degree locks
new jegs valve covers
mr. gasket valve cover bolts with t tops
and a new set of speed pro pistons which put me at 10.2:1 compression
decided to go with blue
went with a MSD Street Fire HEI Distributor
its the 'special' or whatever deal going on at jegs and summit for 160 bux which i feel is a fair price for a nice distributor
so an issue i was having trouble with, was my fuel, i thought maybe i should run an electric fuel pump for the engine, but maybe too much money, so i should just do the mechanical, either way, i have to drop the tank and either swap sending units or do my friends mod of adding a peice of hose in place of the in-tank fuel pump, truth be told, i dont like the mechanical pump, you might say, well why not, works great on every truck, yah, but, its a pain spending an extra half hour fiddling with that rod to get it just right to finnagle the pump in to slide it right, all while trying not to disrupt the rtv that you just put down, waste of my life, looked up stuff all day, different pumps and what not, realized that i had read somthing one time that may come in handy, it was only talked about once that i know of and i only really know of one person who has done it, although im sure others have
comes down to simple factors...
why buy an electric fuel pump, when you already have one sitting in you're gas tank? and it works fine, it just puts out too much psi
well, then theres regulators w/ return lines...
simply, i have to run the lines into this and return it back, tune it to 6 or 7 psi and it will take care of the rest, quick block off plate, and we're done, so i ordered a holley fuel regulator w/ a return and a pressure gauge and it works perfect, no problems at all
went to pick up my pistons, i decided then and there i was going to work on the engine untill i couldnt anymore, most of the night if needed, a friend came over for a long time and helped me out quite a bit
but
it got done
i got a 670 truck avenger to go with the engine, should work well
picked up a th400 / 208 combo in great condition
put a b&m shift kit in it, heavy duty
got a tci saturday night special to go with it, the stall is a little high, but should be ok for the price
