I am putting a 427 in a 1984 K5 with an SM465 with hyd clutch. Can anyone give me a link or part number to a cheap header that they know will work. Everyone lists either 4wd auto or 2wd manual, but finding both is not proving to be very easy. Any help would be appreciated.

Sanderson Headers offers some shortys that will work but they're not cheap.

Try looking at Flowtechs, they are cheap price(think mine were $130-$140). Work fine on my 81 454 K30 4 speed. Thick flange, good size tubes and seem to be holding up ok. Close to the starter though, I put a heat shield on it and have had no problems.

bbc and headers

I used Hedman mid/shorty header. They're coated and about 300.00 and are 14 gauge with THICK flanges. Excellent quality!!! They have the same header available without the coating for about 150.00....New. Part # HED68618 for the coated headers. Hope that helps'ya...

I don't remember what brand he used, but he had to dimple the pipe for clearance at the master cylinder.

I used hedman longtube headers. Were meant for an 84 chevy k20 pickup truck with a 4x4 auto trans. Fit perfectly.

Yes, but did you have a Hydraulic clutch, or a mechanical clutch linkage?

Mine is a mech clutch. However it looks to me like they would fit with a hydro clutch as well.

Mine is mechanical linkage as well and they were a near perfect fit. Fit a whole lot better than any long tubes and the construction quality is ALOT better than others.

of course they fit better.. it's a shorty, it should.. long tubes have a substantial performance edge over a shorty... might as well leave it manifolds at that point imo...

I have Doug Thorley Tri-Ys and they are awesome... Fit perfectly. I had to take the bumpstop that contacts the pinion flange on the 10B off but other than that they were PERFECT...They were not cheap though...

Part # THY-304Y

I think I paid like $400 like 6 years ago for em

ceramics?

i always liked the tri-y.. a cross between a shorty and long tube, good ground clearance and fitment of a shorty, while maintaining the performance of a long tube.. debatably, of course..

I need to make a choice, soon... Thorley's a top 3 candidate for me.. but I really wanna go stainless if i can......

I have a set of hedman long tubes on my K5 temporarily to break in the motor - 454 / OE hydraulic 4spd parts.

Once the motor is running and broke in I'll be installing my Sanderson shorties.
