BBC into gen 1 k5. Crossmember built

get the big block in tonight. More better pics on my digital camera i left at work. Had to do some creative beating on the firewall to clear valve covers and i pulled the master cylinder to drop it in. Tranny isn't in yet so it is laying back right now.

Crossmember looks like it worked great for you. Will your hood clear the air cleaner?

Your motor appears to be sitting higher than RustyParts'. Can you get some side shots of the motor and maybe a shot or two showing where you had the interference.

i have my velocity stack air filter on it now. I will put the standard airfilter base on it and it should clear by enough. I'll ake pics of the firewall areas. wasn't too bad and might not have actually hit once I get a tranny on it and hung up so the engine isn't laying back.

WOW  !! Coming along great!
Now all you have to do is build 87 more for the rest of us :D !

got the tans bolted up today and the drivers side header on. Fits by a mile. Now has anyone put a th400 on w/o a small body lift? If i tilt it to the point the adaptor hits the floor (right at the support for the middle of cab) the engine looks too far tilted back and my cases would site low. Might just have to get the body lift and body mounts done before I can put my doubler in. I have the trans resting there on a ratchet strap for now.

redid my motor mounts for the new cab setup. ended up using a diy crossmember I got a good deal on and had to cut it upand redo it to fit the bbc oil pan and weld it in because of my engine being a touch forward and sitting at a more forward angle.

count me in for # 88!

That looks great, I am in the same build steps you are now and am very anxious to fill the void under my hood. (gotta feel good)

Hey MNorby,
I'm not sure if you still cruise this section but if you do see this I have a question on the DIY crossmember. I am looking to upgrade my motor mounts since I have all poly on the doubler which is pushed up like yours. What do think would be the best way to make Kerts crossmember work? Maybe I could have him send the kit without the plates that bolt to the frame brackets welded and set the cerrossmember where I need it to be and weld up myself. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Kerts crossmember fits my big block just fine so far. I had to flip the crossbar 180 deg, but that is probably the way it was jigged up at DIY4x4.

my biggest problem was my engine was forward about 3/4" forward of stock and the drivetrain sits higher so its at a forward more angle. Also his new crossmember has the bolt on flanged crosstube whereas the one I got was a 1 piece deal and wasn't low enough to clear my oilpan.

My drivetrain is pushed up and engine is at a more forward angle also. That's what I am trying to figure out what needs to be changed to make it work.

maybe see if he can build crossmember w/o welding the tube to were the flat plate bolts to the C plate that goes into frame. then you could bolt the C into frame and bolt the plate to that. Bolt the motor mounts on and slide the crossmember into the motor mount plates then tack the tubes to the side plates. remove and fully weld. hope that makes sense.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the replies. Keep up the nice work on your new project. Looks sick!
