That's the question! Are they the same distributor, will one work in the other?
Thanks, Mark.

Guess there's no way of making a comp. controlled one work without a computer is there? I have a TBI one here but think I'll have to buy an early one eh?

Anything could be done I suppose, but buying an earlier one is likely the easiest solution.

You could go aftermarket too. MSD etc.

Or just inject the big block. :)
Been thinking that since she bought it. Is a stock BB TBI up to the job? Supposedly around 550 horses with all the Edelbrock RPM stuff on it inc heads.
I'm sure I've seen 4 bbl/4 inj TBs for sale somewhere. I could use that with an EBL system. Certainly better than a Holley!

I checked on running a TBI on a 468 that I had, and was told that it wouldn't work. I'm not an engine builder, but was told that the fuel will "puddle" in the heads, the computer will read this, lean it out, and in turn will burn the pistons. But any Chevy V-8 HEI distrobuter will work. Just make sure you watch ha ones you get, ones from the 80s have the electronic crap on it.....

550 doesn't sound impossible to me, but that WOULD be a pretty serious cam I assume.

Just don't buy a distributor from a tall deck engine, they are about .400" taller than a standard BBC.

Thanks guys, went and bought an MSD Street Fire HEI. Seems ok, not as nicely built as a GM one but cheap and available.........I knew a girl like that once!:D
That stock stuff , used, doesn't turn up too often over here so a new one was the easy option. Now I find that the PO had used the wrong vacuum ports on the carb so had no vac advance. Now I've corrected that, I can't get the idle down low enough. Looks like bad air leak at the throttle shafts....so it's new carb time too!

If only I had the time to inject this thing!!
