Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

Been knocking out a few odds and ends every night. Fuel tank, fuel hose, pump wiring and vent hose.
Put final torque on the rear suspension upper and lower arms.
Set rear end in place. Will finish bolting that in this weekend and set up the rear coilovers to an initial ride height.
Friend of mine (guy with the orange 66 I posted about here before) gave me some AN fittings for the fuel pressure regulator that was leaking so I finally got that buttoned up but decided not to fire it up to test for leaks at 9:30 at night.
Got distracted and started working on replacing some trim on the car. The rear trim was pretty dented up/missing/ broken and I just got tried of looking at it when the new stuff was sitting right there.
Lastly I ordered some tires.
Tires I wanted are still backordered from the factory. So ordered some that were a few bucks cheaper.
Decided to go with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s

I will see them sometime mid week.
Sizes will be 245/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. 340 treadwear. I don't think I've bought a set of Firestone tires in my life. So what the heck, why not give them a shot. They have decent ratings, are a decent price. They should be fine for daily driver/cruising duty's. Over the winter I'll pick up the 200 treadwear tires I had my eye on.

Had to do some googlefu to see what the side effects of heat stroke/heat exhaustion is. Definitely feeling the effects of the last few days of 90+ degree weather and working 10&12 hour days.
Always a big push from the contractors on a holiday week to stay on schedule.
I think I'll take the night off from the chevelle. Drink a beer on my deck and get the bubble machine out for my daughter.

Curious about how those go. Give us a report after you've got a few miles on them. I'd been buying the Michelin pilot sport whatevers at the moment. Getting to damn expensive. Went to the Continental contact sports and they've been pretty good. Got one set for my 4th gen Camaro and one for my G8.

And be careful w/ the heat, it can **** you up pretty good. And it'll sneak up on you before you know it.

Been there a few times living in this broiler called AZ.

Pretty good weekend in the books.
Lots of wrench time. And lots of family time.
Life is good.

Huge milestone was achieved. Got the steering on and with that, the last of the major parts are on the car.

Now it's just just final bolting of some things, mostly the front suspension/front sway bar.

I have some wiring to button up and some brake stuff. I have a big order of brake parts I need, that will be delivered tomorrow.
I still need to square away some exhaust stuff. So still a bit of work ahead of me. But it's a relief to have all the major stuff on the car.

Did continue with the brake stuff and mounted the line lock.

You know, I need something to show off the chrome moly axled one wheel tire fire. :rotfl:

Nice work! :waytogo:

Though I was expecting more than a pair of vice grips when you said "line lock."

JK!

Looks sweet!

Ok. here's the skinny.
Ordered those Firestone tires from a local Firestone shop last week. Said Tuesday/Wednesday. Ok. No prob.
Called today and said they were in.
Ok. Great.
Got home and fired up the mighty 454 and got down to the shop. And the idiot behind the counter couldn't ring me out.
So after 20 minutes I was forced to leave. After he told he wouldn't be able to close out the transaction.

So the small rub here is that my neighbor is a GM tech. And he was going to mount and balance these tires for saving me roughly 100 bucks on those M&B costs.

I walked out slightly annoyed and have festered myself into pissed.

Do I.....
a. Find a different tire shop and/or a different tire to use
b. Just go back and get my tires and not raise a fuss.
C. raise a fuss and tell them only going to buy the tires if they throw in mounting and balancing for free.

I'm heavily leaning towards option C.
It would save my neighbor some time and energy and I still walk away with the savings if they agree.

Ck5 thoughts?

So was it equipment problems or operator incompetence?
I say call them and say you went to pick up when you were told to, and wasted your time and wasted the neighbor's time who waited to install the tires and now you need them to take care of the mounting for the hassle or at least some discount.

I can't say for sure if it was operator error or the computer program.
Either way you would certainly think that you could find a way to take my money. Then close out the sale in the computer later on with the managers help.

I know if I was in his shoes, I would find a way to not send the customer out the door without his product in hand, and a lighter wallet.....

I’d go with option c , it’s been awhile since I worked for firestone but they had a 1-800 number and never wanted upset customers .

Exactly

I think I will call down there in the morning and act more pissed then actually am. My heart isn't set on these, but I still am super annoyed I wasted 45 minutes of my time. Time I could have spent actually working on the car.
My thought process on these was this.
Firestone makes a fantastic rear farm tire.
Growing up if your tractor didn't have Firestone rears on it was worth less. Literally.

So I found a tire from a reputable company, a decent price, with decent performance for my intended use.
Tons of tire manufacturers fit the bill for these minimum requirements.
So it's seriously no skin off my back.
Stay tuned I guess.

I think you’ll like the Firehawks for the street, but they're no track tire. I had them on the Vette and bought them 15 yrs ago, and they hooked at the strip pretty good, but had to be pretty careful with them in the rain.
Heat exhaustion comes on as fatigue, light headed, nauseous, etc. Its best to hydrate to prevent, but if you feel it coming on, get in the A/C or at least shade, and pound a Powerade or similar sports drink followed by a bottle of water.
3 tits and a shaved beaver on the progress!
