Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

Just whizzed through the last dozen pages or so and wanted to throw my 2c in here...

Thanks for showing this - I'm not necessarily just here for the truck tech, although it is good I enjoy the camaraderie here and am a gearhead in general.

You mentioned the rear end, I believe the 9" is/can be lighter than the d60's, and the have more available gear ratios. Someone mentioned a cheap spool... I'd take an open any day of the week over a spool or poorly chosen traction device for corner carving.

As for power levels... I don't look at the hp/tq numbers I look at lbs per hp. My gauge is fun begins at about 10lbs/hp, fast at about 8lbs/hp and starts getting silly at about 5-6lbs/hp... For autocrosses, I'd say that having a wide usable and controllable powerband will give you better service as its generally considered to be faster to lug it a hair or bounce off the rev limiter for a moment rather than shifting. Many times the entire course can be run in 1 or 2 gears. Too much power on an autocross will start to turn it from an autocross course into a drift course. Which is also fun...

I'm not sure if you've considered the classing or not that you'd be put into - I haven't read the rules for scca in a very long time but the suspension/brakes ect that you've already gotten into is gonna push you up some classes - you may want to figure out where you're gonna want to be and use that as a guide for the engine combo. Unless you really don't care about being competitive at all, which is completely fair.

Keep on sharing!

Good feed back Josh.
All things to consider. Just a few notes I'll touch back on myself. Rearend wise- ALOT of chevelle guys use a D60, why? I don't really know. I can only assume it's the 9.75 ring gear and chevelles gets pretty porky in the 68-72 years. And those are the most popular years.
So since I follow those guys, the desire for a 60 just kinda rubbed off.
The same thing happens over here for certain products.
When I originally was looking I stumbled on a D60 pro touring axle that looked pretty appealing. I didn't mention it in here before.( I don't think) I generally keep somewhat of a closed mouth about future plans these days. It leads to unnecessary conversation, and can cloud your own decisions. As it sits now I've found that same axle in a 9 inch. And it's cheaper. So most likely that will get the nod.

Horsepower wise, you don't need a ton. But you need to be over 500 to be competitive. Best case scenario for an engine is an aluminum small block.
But I'm not sure if I can justify a 4-5k dollar investment for a new Al block. Second best is idea an LS.
The goal isn't to be the lightest car on out there. A 67 chevelle is just the wrong car for that. But by using a aluminum block I can build more balance into that car.
I haven't given it much more thought then What I wrote before on the subject.
I have a ton of driving skill to acquire before shaving 100 lbs off the front end matters.
None the less, it's good to have an idea of wants/needs/dreams.

Lastly, when it comes to classes, I'm not overly worried about it right away. I am taking the same approach as I did when we raced lemons. The first race we were just happy to be there. And we didn't care what class they stuffed us in.
(Funny side story is that they originally put us in a higher class due to the quality of our car but once they found out it was our first race, they dropped us to the lowest class)
Anyway, that's how I am looking at this. Once I get some experience I will worry about what I'm competing in.

Stamping flash on these reproductions are terrible I couldn't even get the 1/2 bolt through easily. I had to get my head/intake porting box out just to clean these up. I had thought about finding a OEM set on the chevelle forum or eBay but I didn't want to wait/pay for a good set to pop up. I wish I would have.
Oh well. Adapt and overcome.IMG_20200516_125655683.jpg

I was disappointed with myself on how thin i let this box get. Nothing worse then relying on something when your in a pinch and not having what you expected.

I just wondered. Most people don't use em for anything less than drag racing I thought.

Hard to say. I would not be surprised if this car had been raced before. I actually questioned the po about them. I got the answer I told you. They were on the car when he got it.
I don’t think they are worth changing even though I don’t necessarily need them.

Only thing I've ever heard was they transmitted engine vibes through the car. I have no idea if that true lol. Don't know much about em except I never see em.

They do. Lots of guys don’t like them. I don’t care myself. It’s a hot rod, not a caddy. I also like loud pipes and gear drives. So I’m not the person to ask.

After I got the headers in and tightened up, I put in my o2 sensor. I was worrying my 15 degree upward angle might force the tail of the sensor to hit the floor pan. I measured, but sometimes as finished condition isn't the same as your measurement.
It went in perfectly. Feeling like I was finally having some luck I put the fast throttle body on and bolted it down.

I will be pulling that "an line" cover off those heater hoses.
Looking better then this mess.IMG_20200413_155031076.jpg
Tomorrow I am going to jump to this, pypes 3" xpipe.

I was going to buy a nice builder kit from stainless solutions, but I was thinking this will be a faster route.
I will have to extend the driver's side head pipe to meet the flex coupler. I Know that, but I'm not sure about anything else.
I will probably just mock it and then I'll get some more pipe this week. I don't think I have any 3" stainless here. I know I got some at the farm. So that's frustrating to me. Probably won't get much done, I told my wife I was only going to listen to Johnny Cash's greatest hits one time through and then it would be family time.

Anyone got a good exhaust hanger they like to use? What style is the hot ticket?

Got the plan for the exhaust layed out. Really couldn't do anything with it until I got a few straight pipes so I moved onto the fuel system.
I would be lying if I said I was 100% happy with it, but I don't hate it enough to change it.
The back fuel rail will feed back into the fuel pressure regulator. And then I just need to bring a line up the the filter.
So just need to make one small hose, and then one big one for the feed line to filter.

I had the filter much lower back behind the dist. But I realized it would be a total pain to service. So I moved it up higher and that's what I don't care for.
Oh well it's good enough for now.

That's about the size of this one. I was going to make it my air cleaner stud.
I need to cut off the stud and drill and tap it. Or extend the stud. Or say screw it, that's way to much and make it shop art.
