going to try and cut em off with a drimel in the morning. the puller i had just shattered the lower half of the bearing. will post pis in the morning

But seriously, try and get the rollers and cage off, then use a cutoff wheel and cut a groove in the race. hit it hard with an air hammer or chisel right in the groove. It should pop free.

we did get the cage off andcut the groove, i hit it with a hammer and punch but no dice.
i will try it in the morning got dark and cold had to quit

the pinion bearing were both pitted really bad and the carrier bearings were really slopy

you can see where the bearing lower half broke when we tried to pull it off. then i tried to cut it with a dremal and hit it with a hammer, guess i need a bigger hammer. my friend in vegas said "grow a set and smack it with a bfh. it will come apart."

i have to get it today there are three cold fronts one today one tomorrow and one sat that will drop us into the teens

Bfh or get that bear remover under it and get it off.

I always cut diagonal and use sharp chiesel to crack it should come right off. I use 32 oz snap on dead blow as choice of hammers for this.
Good luck

if you like tools and are going to do gears get this setup . . . it works like a hot knife threw butter . . . when I first got it I showed a 30+year tech who did most of his time in a dealer ship . he said ah just a fancy tool bla bla bla ..... till he saw me pop a bearing off damage free and shim damage free so quick he couldn't believe it . he was a changed man after that .

look here post #271 https://ck5.com/forums/threads/the-...ots-of-parts-pics.245582/page-14#post-2702092

I used a dremel cutoff wheel and a cold chisel to split bearing races on stubborn rear axle bearing at the parts store's machine shop..

You do need a good whallop with a heavy hammer to crack the bearing race the rest of the way,but not so hard the chisel digs into the part the bearing seats on..
--wear safety goggles and a shop apron though--I didn't wear the apron one day, next morning after a bearing race shattered when I smacked it the afternoon before,my belly button felt weird..pulled up my shirt, and found a shard sticking out that was about 1/2" long--had been bleeding too!--I went to the E.R. to get it removed--had a infection afterwards that took quite awhile to heal, had to get a tetanus shot..pretty weird I never felt it go in..!

sweetk30 i wish i could drop 500 bucks for that tool but id have to save my pennies for a while

i have to get a new carrier for the gears they wouldn't clear so I just kept the 308 for now. it was hitting something. couldnt tell what. witch was a bummer I wanted the 373 gear guess Ill save for a detroit like I wanted.

I did get it in went for a drive and no strange vibration no loud bangs. I got it up to 55 progressivly. ( I didnt hammer it right off)I cant really hear much over the motor. but the pattern looked good so wee will see in the morning I will take a short ride on the freeway to see how it does at speed.

gears should work on a 3.08 carrier as I used mime for 4.56 gears with no problems.

i had some kind of interference dont know what it was swapped back to the 308 and no interference. maybe it was the noob coming out....hahaha
