Bed Installation/removal a two man job?

that sucks that you have to rent thier hoist's, my local u pull it junkyard has two guys riding around the yard with big forklifts. after you take whatever you are getting off you go get the forklift driver and he drives it to the front and most of the time they will load it in your truck.
 
I pulled an intact 85 bed at a local pic and pull in MD. They pulled the truck to the gate, and cut the bolts. I had two other guys with me and that bed was a heavy SOB.
Unless your superman your not carrying it anywhere... It had to weight at least 400 lb.

No offense, but you guy must be some little guys. Or, have prior back injuries. I've pulled dozens of beds myself. Remove the bolts and flip'em over from the side. I think it's an easy two person job. The hardest part about carring it off the back is there really isn't a good spot to grab if you don't want to bend it. The wheel well is at an awkward height, flip it over and it's easier to carry.

What about some furnature dollys? Or one of thoes hand trucks/carts you can lay down? If you don't want to carry it, roll it.

And FWIW: I'm 6'1" 185lbs Been hittin the gym a couple times a week for the last 7 years. Most of my "auto friends" are of simular build, so we have no problem carring stuff out of yards.
 
Well the I am on the shorter side, 5'8" 170lb. The two other guys I had with me were about built the same. So yep it took more than one guy to carry the dam thing and load it onto the trailer. Getting off of the truck as you described I could see as a one or two man job.

My wife's genius cousin had a fuel pump go out in his '88 longbed and decided it would be a great idea for the two of us to lift the bed off the frame to change out the pump instead of just lowering down the fuel tank like any normal person would do. Let me tell you, it was heavy. I bet it weighed over 250 lbs. Then the braniac didn't want to set the bed down on the ground because it had this delicate little roll pan on it instead of a real bumper, so we had to be really careful with it and all that crap. I think he ended up wimping out and calling a couple of other guys to help put the bed back on because he didn't think we could lift it high enough to not scratch it. Boohoohooo!

Flip the bed over and use a handtruck. Bring some guys with you to help balance it while you roll it up to the gate.
 
My fuel pump, and my buddies fuel pump went out at the same time. We both have '97 chevy full sizes. On his long bed, we dropped the tank.
On my short bed, we pulled the bed. It was a bad idea with just us to. We had to use the engine hoist on the rear, and we got the front, and walked it off. Never do that again.
