I have a mark 4 454 with peanut port heads. I bought it without an intake. The engine is rather fresh, and that has been verified. I Need to buy an intake, and don't mind buying one made specificly for my peanut port's. Before I buy it though is it worth it to go ahead and put my stock 049 heads on it and just get an intake to match them? Or am I best to wait until my next rebuild where I will replace the stock pistons with some domed pistons to raise the compression to really benefit from the heads. Input?

And the purpose of the engine is to be in my trail/ mud truck. Not more then 5000 rpm. Just a general performance engine, nothing extreme.

I have read the article before, Thanks for the input and link!

I am not scared of my peanut port heads, but if my 049 heads are a better option in stock form, why not use them?

I like my street warrior on my peanut port motor, about the only one that semi matches. On a 049 I would use a performer rpm even for low speed.

Wombat, i used to run my stock peanut port heads on my BB and they run strong plenty of torqe ect.. i also have a set of 781s and from what ive read they are some of the best (Stock) heads around (Basically the same as 049s)all you would need is a WIDE oval port intake, im sure you could pick one up on ebay for a decent price,I have one sitting on my work bench that im not running you can have it , but shipping from here to you would be stupid money.Im now running 088 502 (rectangle port) heads with an aluminium intake that matches the heads, once you hit 2000rpm all i can say is Holly S#&t !! very very powerfull loves WOT and pulls very hard up to 5500rpm.

Cheers Simon

I run the newer Vortec? style heads on my BB, and i ran them with a peanut port intake for a few years.... yea dumb i know but it just happened. I finally got a oval port highrise and the conversion plate, and to be fair new injectors and roller rockers, and it will burn all 4 40in boggers on the street outside the house from a standstill, and my buddy has the peanut port 454, minus the rockers, and it can hardly roast 35s off in 2wd. Just my .02 Now i have the roller cam, higher cmp ratio, the rockers, ported TB over his, but still way better, especially over 3500. A mudtruck regularly sees over 3500, now my Sub doesnt fit down trails all that well, but the ones it did i hit over 3500 anyways, lol

well, i cant post cuz not a full member. correct terminology? and apparently behavior such as this gets you in trouble in the city limits, and bogger tracks are real easy to match when they lead into the driveway... on top of that i just got the privilege of getting my license back after a year because of other less smart behavior, so you know, cant be belligerently ignorant anymore. but 5.13s make all that behavior nice and easy

I've got 40's and a decent Big block and it won't roast all 4 :(

5.13's also

454Sub, I think your full of it. You don't have to lie to have friends.

And you could be right, or it could be I'm to lazy to lie on the interwebs, and my 6400$ dui says otherwise, but what do I know ur probably right
