Having trouble with my motor running. Frustrating. I just got the transmission rebuilt and reinstalled. Fired it up topped off the tranny fluid and ran threw the gears. Then she idled for another minute or two then died. I though she was just out of gas. Put 5 gallons of fresh gas in and now it does this,

She will start but die almost immediately. I've checked spark, plenty. Checked codes, had a 34 so i changed the MAP sensor. Checked fuel pump. I can hear it running. Cracked the line open at the filter and gas comes out (not sure how much is suppose to come out). I'm thinking i may have that problem with the cracked hose in the tank. Any other thoughts on what the problem might be before i drop the tank?

Thanks

Have you used a fuel pressure gauge? Just because it has fuel doesn't mean it is at the right pressures. I have had the little tube inside the tank develp a crack and I had the same symptoms as a bad fuel pump.

I'd change the filter before I dropped the tank...:dunno:

I've changed the filter. It has been sitting for a few years because i had no funds for the tranny. I imagine some decay took place. Tires are now dry rotted, etc.

Take the air cleaner off and look down at the injectors while the motor is running. May need a friend to turn it over. You should be able to tell if the fuel pump is working. Don't drop the tank until you verify it's the pump. I would hate to go through all that and find out the pump was okay.

I had to drop my tank, it was a bitch had nearly 25 gallons of fuel in it. Did some measuring and figured out where the pump and return lines were. Cut a 12x12" hole in the floor, used some 1/2" angle on the front and rear sides one leg under the floor. Welded it in and cut a plate 2" larger on each side and screwed it down with #12 x1/2" stainless screws, be sure to put a small bead of calk around inside edge so no air leaks. Painted the plate and all welds with undercoating.

Its injecting fuel to start. Starts, then stops. I'm going to work on it tomorrow again and see if I've overlooked something.

Assuming there was no gas in it at all? If there was any sort of old gas in there, I'd be really surprised if 5 gallons of new would be enough to dilute it.

I wouldn't think it would fire at all if the gas is that bad though.

Mine threw that MAP sensor code when the hose split in the tank. replaced it, still did it. After that, I ALWAYS check fuel pressure with ANY fuel injected engine now when it seems like steady running problem.

If you rev the engine will it keep going? If not there is a red wire coming off the fuel pump relay, run 12 volt power to it, this will keep the pump running always.

Borrow a fuel pressure gauge from the auto parts store and verify you have a fuel pressure issue before pulling tank.

MAP error code? Check vacuum line for connections and no leaks. It should be hooked to center port rear of TBI between fuel lines.

So i ended dropping the tank. The little rubber hose was cracked... She finally runs. Runs good to. Need new tire now.
