I added the compressor for the vintage air system and the belt lines up but it appears that it might not work as intended. It doesnt seem like there will be enough belt engagement on the power steering pulley.

The belt is physically in line with the rear most pulley but that runs the water pump and power steering pump. What options do I have to put a belt on this compressor?

Vintage air is closed or I'd be bothering them instead.

85 VERSION 87 version is a combination of V belts and the ribbed belt for alternator. Also looks
like you are not running reverse water pump. upload_2018-4-14_12-53-41.jpeg 89 UP
just some images off next. Also looks like your compressor uses two belts.

Is the the second picture “running a reverse water pump”

This is on my 91. It is not a reverse water pump. The compressor has two belts but only the forward one lines up with the rearmost belt. That runs off the crank water and steering pumps. Can it run another and be ok?

Your 91 should look like this, except this image has a compressor delete. It had a reverse water pump. The original compressors only used one belt ,crank, water pump, compressor to power steering pump. they also ran a second belt to the pump. See first diagram for 85. it should work, only way to find out is to try it.

thats exactly how mine looks

There are four belt routing setups for 91. One tons got the shaft on the serp belts apparently.

It appears factory ac trucks got another belt for the compressor. The right pulleys are probably a pain to find.

I personally don't think that there will be enough belt traction on the power steering. I agree with you being concerned.
I had similar experiences with the brackets that Vintage Air supplied for my big block. Unfortunately, I don't see a solution for you immediately.
Can you add a 3rd rib on the crank pulley, and run crank, 2nd groove on power steering, then compressor?
That is how I have seen factory stuff in the early 80s models.

I'm having trouble finding the appropriate crank pulley to match but maybe I can add a groove to the power steering pump and use that to pull the compressor?

Allegedly. I can get my calipers in there kinda but the display is dead so I'm just reading the ruler on it. It's close as hell.

Classic Industries has one listed for '69-'86 small block, 3 groove. #3972180 , their price is $69, maybe it's a GM one that you can find cheaper?

I just found a guy with the crank, water pump and power steering pullies. The power steering pulley isn't off yet.
He said $40 for the set. But you will have to pay shipping.

Then id have to change alternator too. I should have that.
Is this a buddy of yours or something?
Pics of it all installed?
What app is it coming off of?

A coworker parted out a '79 K5 today and I stopped by after the engine was already out. No pics, too late.
And I guess that I missed the wide ribbed belt in your pics, I wondered about that later.
Too bad that you can't just add the back pulley like the '67-'72 trucks.

I didn't take a pic of the pump pulley, since it was still in the middle of the huge mess!!!

I'm down for a complete set. Cause it's already hot as balls.

Ok, I will take my puller to work tomorrow and get on this for ya!
