I'm sure there is a thread somewhere discussing this, but i'm a lazy turd.

What's you fellas thoughts on using one of these benders on .120 DOM?

I found a used one locally with 6 different dies for $150.

Google "harbour freight kinker" They can do some nice bends with the right touch. That being said I think I may make one my next purchase for the shed.
I did read somewhere about it that they don't work as good on tubing, as the dies are for pipe which have different outside diameter then the tubing?

I thought I read somewhere, most likely here, that to get decent bends out of those you have to fill the tube with sand, helps spread out the bend, force or whatever is going on in there. I think Mr. Marv Springer also told me this as well. A lot of recent guys won't know him now though. :doah:

and yeah, when I saw the heading of the thread, that was the first thing that came to mind. :D

That's a great tool to ruin a bunch of expensive DOM. You need a rotary draw bender like a JD2...it's the right tool for the job.

Pipe is measured Id (inner diameter). Tube is od (outer diameter)

I have built multiple pipe bumpers with mine. Works well for bends under 45 degrees in 1.5" pipe.

Smaller the pipe, the less it kinks.

I have the JD2 model 32 manual bender. Very good quality tool I believe, I'm happy with the bender it self.

Jd2 customer service could use some work tho.

After some research, this is the route I believe I am going to go. A buddy of mine is willing to split it with me, so I figured I better jump on it.

I also heard of guys getting the JD2, then going with a HF hydrolic ram and saving a lot of monies:dunno:

Just a FYI the jd2 tubing dies are pretty high like 300 bucks for the best one in each size.

I just went for the 180* bend with the widest tubing thickness available

I actually found a guy locally selling a JD2 die set for $150 for 4 diff sizes.:woot:

I think I'm going to hit him up this weekend. And get a bender coming.

Dang I'd be all over that deal, I think I have like 800-900 in just 3 dies lol 1.5" 1.75" and 2.0"

Those were the main ones I was wanting any ways. Not sure if there are any other uses for larger or smaller sizes. I guess maybe smaller for bracing.

Yea I got the 1.5" for like grab handles and stuff like that, maybe some fancy engine bay batter mounts or something.

Actually been thinking of building a go cart out of some old scrap lol found a 10 horse Briggs for a 100 bucks new lol could be fun

We better see a build thread on that one :thumb::popcorn:
