Bent family Camaros

In July 2002, Dad and I drove to Iowa to get this beauty

Car is licenced and titled, full interior and rollcaged
Stock Eliminator, we ran it in G/SA mostly, using all the iron intake and heads, unported, with Qjet and the crap .410" lift cam. Eventually we worked this into a high 11 second car in Denver, at almost -1.4 under the index (appx .1 second off the national record at that time)

I'm beginning to think y'all had all the camaros in your part of the country. :eek1:

So between 2002 and 2006 we ran a lot of national and divisional races. Best I can remember, we hit 13 different states during that period. Most times we ran Super Stock and Stock Eliminator. At the tracks closer to home, we sometimes ran 4 cars at once.

Between life and the economy, things got pretty crazy so I mostly was just working on cars and tuning. Mind you I built the k5 in the winter of 02-03, and started doing that pretty heavy too

By 06 we decided to park the super stock car, and just ran the purple 69 in G/SA for stock eliminator. Dad drove and I tuned, and we had by far our best success that year, culminating in the class win in our own backyard at Bandimere. Winning that trophy was all Dad really wanted out of racing, and trailed of the rest of the year
In 07 he retired. In 08, I got divorced, and the purple Z28 went with her. In 2009, mom bought a prepped 2005 corvette. This was the first car i took future Mrs Bent for a ride in. In 2011, I sold the 68 when now Mrs Bent and I moved in to her parents place after I lost my job. Later that year, dad traded the white 69 for a butt ugly 79 camaro and cash.

In 2012 they were hauling it to auction in Kansas city when they got side swiped and rolled the truck and trailer. Insurance paid them more than the mess was worth

Mom still has her blue 69 and the 05 Corvette. I have the blue 94 Z28. Dad pulled the 5.13 gear and spool out of the purple 69 and replaced it with a 4.10 and an Eaton posi. He left the stock eliminator engine in it :haha:

As that motor wasn't set up for street use, it perished quickly. We replaced it with a ZZ5 crater and pulled the loaded 200r4 for a streetable 700r4. Car still has the cage in it

The engine I sold in 2016 and bought the ARB, chromoly shafts, and shocks. That was the back up engine we built. It was far better than the 350 we had in the car that dynoed 426/458. The spare had 6.125 rod and a .017 offset crank, 70 over for 363, the heads and intake were acid ported. We were a bit outside the rules at that point lol. If the block hadn't been rock blocked, I'd have changed the pistons and cam and used it in the 77

Ever see the Roadkill episode where Finnegan ends up at Cruz and Tony Pedregon's shop for I want to say a custom crimped fuel or transmission line? There is a shot of a staircase leading upstairs (I know...crazy!) but there were two Wally's on each stair tread all the way up, then one next to each other for what had to be 50 feet along the mezzanine. It was insane, and Finn literally stood there all slack jawed in disbelief.

Anyways, you have one and that is the coolest thing I've seen in quite a while!! :saweet:

Its kinda a crazy life story all wrapped in one about how our lives are metered by what cars were in our lives at that time.

Moral of the story is its mom's fault I like cars
:haha:

I wish we could have won more on that level. As it is, I finished in the top 3 of my class locally 8 of 11 years, dad won 2 track championships and 3 other top 3 places in that same span.

We were blessed just to be there

Mark your memories and accomplishments are proud moments, what a thrill to have those experiences with your family!
This is the guy that has done my headwork for years.
A really great guy that everyone had respected.
It was pretty awesome to hear his racing stories and look at HIS favorite pics of him shaking hands w Force, Warren Johnson, Connie Kalitta, and Alan Johnson. And being on the Champions stage.
He was a low budget racer, an excellent head/intake guy and did work for Ford and Jack Roush.
His pinnacle was being natl champ in 2000, and winning the Allstar race. Sadly missed.

I remember you and I talking about him several times in the past. I still think I met him. Along with a thousand of those racers (including ones named above) all pretty great guys. Drinking beer with Kurt Johnson and kicking Dan Fletcher’s ass with a .002 light also rank high

Was a fun trip down memory lane. Associates the car with half my life lol. Also shows why I went awol from here during different periods. I’m glad you guys enjoyed the story
