My daughter wants to buy my SIL a compressor for light home use...he has a few air tools, limited to an impact and nailgun at this point...I don't believe he will get into bodywork or sandblasting anytime soon, and really don't see it getting much use where they are for now. They don't have a garage so it needs to go in the basement, so less than 20gal tank, portable unit would be best.
Also needs to run on 110v circuit.
$250 is her high end for this gift so whatever is a decent unit in that price range is what she'll get.
I've looked at some of the Husky units...4 SCFM at 90# and a belt drive cast iron oiled compressor seems to be decent for a 8gal portable unit...$129
