Getting ready to do do an engine swap in my 1974 GMC K2500, pulling front clip to facilitate the other work I plan on doing,ORD crossmember and steering braces, more.
Will be replacing the front fenders and misc parts, but still need a replacement core support,.
Could repair mine, but in the interest of time and motivation want a new one.
Had one ordered from Carparts.com ,showed in stock, recieved email a few days after order that it was out of stock. Unfortunately shipping is a killer to residences, crating charges plus trk freight make it almost not worth the hassle for Chinese made garbage.
Read a few older threads, but with the current beer virus pandemic not finding the availability.
Any suggestions on where to look for a decent product without the shipping costing more than the part?
Thanks

Yeah, they want $299.00 for the premium version and another $200 for shipping to west coast via trk.
For that kind of money thinking I will explore other options.
Thanks,
Dennis

I would think out west you could find a rust free one for less at a salvage yard..

Shipping is a deal killer on many things nowadays..

My friend is restoring a '86 Monte Carlo SS and it needed a complete floor, the T-tops leaked and he got a rude awakening when he gutted the interior!..

He searched online and found a place in MO that had the best price and decent reviews ,but the online ad said "free shipping"--he went to order it and the guy says "We cant ship a piece that large & heavy for free--it'll be about $110 to ship it"..

He haggled back & forth, saying he could get one from Summit for a lot less money and still save money even with the shipping costs, and the guy finally agreed to ship it truck freight for $50--"best I can do",he said..it took 4 days to show up,and it was in perfect condition..a rarity in todays world..

I just got a rear spring hanger for my K2500,the front of the rear spring,my older brother spotted one in a junkyard in southern NH that someone had replaced not that long ago,it was bolted on,not riveted, and there was no bed on the truck,so getting it off was not that bad,he did have to cut two bolts because the nuts were stripped and wouldn't unscrew, but the leaf spring bolt came right out..
(I bet mine wont, its been on there 38 years !)..

The yard charged him $20 for the part,a bargain because the cheapest new one is $94 and $24 shipping from a place in PA,(made in USA ),and can only be had online ..it cost $17.25 to ship it to me less than 100 miles from my brothers town!..(still a deal compared to a new one, this one still has paint on it and zero rot or rust)..

Not as many around here as people think, and finding a good one locally has been difficult.
Already have a fair amount of time invested in hunting one down, will probably just cut out the rust on mine and use my brake to form a new piece.

The junk yards around here are picked clean about as fast as the trucks show up, then crushed without them sitting long.

Pretty much the same thing around here, most of the good wrecking yards are long gone. Money is in later model vehicle parts / rebuilders , adjust inventory or go out of buisiness.
Craigs List is a joke anymore,I don't do book of Faces or most other social media sites.

Since I had the 3rd off ,decided to call around to a few wrecking yards and see if anyone had a good used core support.
Pretty much running out of options when I got a hold of a place in Vancouver, said he had a couple ,come by and take a look.
First one was salvageable, but kept looking, found a truck that had one in really nice condition and only 2 bolts holding it on.
$75 later and on my way over to Pro-Caliber to get some parts for my dunes quad. Going to take the support over to a place in NoPo and have it dipped in a tank, then prime and paint.
Was really surprised by condition and the price, right place right time.
