I need to replace my shotty speakers, they hurt my ears.

I have no clue when it comes to car audio. I am not looking for the best speakers, but just good sound for a reasonable price. Can anyone make some recomendations?

BTW the speakers are for a box behind the seat that the PO installed back in the 1980s, i want to say they are 6" speakers.

I love my Infinity 6.5's in the doors. Good bass response, clean sound, and they are currently available as a pair of components with tweeters you can mount higher up. For about $165 they are a great price, great sound, and well built long lasting speakers.

A tweeter will break the highs out from the midrange, and produces a cleaner sound. Generally a tweeter will have a 1/2" to 3/4" dome, and will produce crisp clean highs, that would be lost with a combo speaker like a 2 way.

I just ordered these guys after I finally got my paycheck. Thanks for the advise, I can't wait to install them! :waytogo:
Glad I could help. For the record, those speakers compete well with comp sets costing alot more $. Im confident you'll like them.

sounds like you are talking about a crossover. The tweeter itself is just a small speaker for higher freqs. without a crossover, all drivers get the same signal. . .

I agree Infinity's are awesome. The Reference Component's have a clearer sound but require more installation because they have a tweeter, external crossover, and a woofer.
The Reference speakers are a all in one speaker meaning the tweeter is mounted in the center of the woofer. Easier install but still sound great.
I have the components in one vehicle and the references in the other and they both sound great. The price isn't bad either with the references being $60 to $130 and the component around $170. On both of my speaker setups I run them from the headunit. You can't go wrong with Infinity. Hope this helps

Just picked up a set of Memphis 4X6's for the dash of my 94 chevy. I'm REALLY happy with them. Think i'm gonna go with the Infinitys in the door though. Had the infinity subs for 2 years now and i couldn't ask for better quality

Check out the clearance and scratch and dent sales at Crutchfield. I bought my speakers from them last year and to tell you the truth I can't figure out what was scratched and dented about the dash speakers. Door speakers were clearance and were just the 2006 model year speakers. All told I saved the cost of new dash speakers by bargain shopping on their site and still got the famous Crutchfield installation instructions, accessories, and warranty.

i use memphis for all my stereo speaker applications...they hae a lifetime replacement warranty so if you blow them all you pay for is shipping them back to memphis...ive done it 4 times already...twice with blown subs and one with door speakers...4th time was a set of subs i bought off ebay that were mismatched models and 1 had the housin cracked...went to local mephis dealer, paid shipping, sent them both off and n a few weeks had NEW MATCHING subs...ive been using them for the past 6 years...

Pyle Blue chip speakers from MCM electronics, they are about $17 per pair.
I just put 4x6's up front and 6.5's in the rear doors of my daily driver '94 Jimmy, I run all speakers with an amp and there is a 10 inch sub on the same amp.
