My truck has a basic alpine alarm/keyless entry system, and my one remaining remote is crapping out.

Saying its already wired up, i figured it would be easy to replace it wiht another one.

What is everyone's favorite basic alarm/keyless entry system?

As cool as remote start is, i don't think i want to bother with wiring it.

Only complaint about the one i have is that the arm/disarm button is one.

I'd kinda like a remote wiht seperate lock/unlock buttons, but i'll consider whatever ppl reccomend.

Thanks!

If you don't mind the alarm you have, why not scour eBay or other sources for a replacement remote? Cheaper and a lot less aggravation than installing a complete new system....

I agree with Greg. But if you do decide for a new alarm, Im generally a fan of the higher-end alarms from the DEI brands.

I figure it wouldn't be that hard to put a new alarm in if there is already a functionnig one there. Just kinda matching up wires and transfering the harness.

But maybe i'll look around, and see what i can find.

Any specific DEI brand you like? I get confused, they have so many names and basically the same products.

I have owned Viper and Python and they are basically the same. Viper is a little more popular I think though and definately proven in the industry. Right now I have the Viper 791xv on my K5, but I dont use the remote start. I love the two-way tech. though, beeps my key fob when the alarm goes off. Check out this one maybe:

ok cool.

Whats teh deal with viper, can you not buy them online?

What does that system sell for approximately?

Thanks!

I think you have to go through an authorized dealer because they are picky about having a "professional" install it so it doesnt void their warranty. You should have someone around you that carries it, but I would check ebay. If you go into Best Buy or someplace to buy it, the price usually includes the install labor.

hm, ok. I was kinda planning on doing the install myself. Guess i should check into it.....

You can do the install yourself it should be easy with one already in there. Just make sure when you purchase a new one they dont charge you for the install.

I love my Viper 791xv. There's nothing better than getting into a cooled off burb on a hot day or a warm one on a cold day. It's also nice having the 2-way and knowing no one is messing with it all night. We had 5 cars on our street get broken into in one night this week, but neither of ours. I thought I moved away from LA, but I guess it moved with us. Anyways, I installed it myself on my burb. It wasn't too bad to install. It took awhile, but was all pretty simple. The biggest pain is Viper only wants pros to install so the direction for install are very vague and not vehicle specific like instructions for kits geared toward DIYers. But a little research on the net and your vehicles wiring diagrams should get you through it. It does stink that the warranty is void, but at least I saved some dough, and I don't trust most alarm/car stereo places anyways.

love viper also. but the viper 3000 has problems, thats why they came out with the 3002 i guess.
