Alright fellow ck5er's. Need some new batteries for Donna it's a 6.2 diesel so unfortunately have to get two. What are your opinions on batteries, trying to stay under $150 a piece?

I won't be much help here, but I have had extremely good and reliable service from a optima red top in my boat, but other than that,I usually just get batteries from carquest, and generally I go with the cheapest ones they offer, somewhere along the line,I thought I heard that the more expensive batteries, like a 72 month batterie is the same as the cheaper ones, they just warranty it longer and the increased cost of the battery is for the warranty, anybody know for sure??

Yeah I have some Super Start batteries in it now with 850 CCA, which is supposed to be good for diesels. About to get them tested and go from there, but they are over 3 years old so might need replaced.

I hear the local Interstate battery stores have a "black case" econo-version of their batteries that are popular with used car dealers and people looking for a decent one cheaper than their usual batteries..I hear they hold up good.

Walmart seems to beat all the other stores here on battery prices, but most are close to,or over 100 bucks now...their Marine batteries are on sale now,and cheaper than most "truck" batteries, and I dont see why they wouldn't work as well as the "truck" batteries, maybe even better with dual batteries and the diesel ...you could get two for a bit more than the cost of one truck battery..

I have bought many nearly new "used" batteries from local salvage yards and had very good luck with them--I bring a load tester with me,and check the date codes on them--many are less than a year old..

Took them to Advance and with the batteries charged they were pushing 300 CCA and 312 CCA. Went ahead and got some new ones. Now to fix this fuel leak, bleed it and see how well she fires up.

We have a local guy here who buys all of the Interstate batteries that have been sitting in the wharehose for more than 3 months. I bought my 3 Group31 semi batteries for $80 each. 3 year replacement warranty. Interstate pulls their labels off.

this spring I changed out the almost 10 year old interstate mega-tron

it had even been frozen a few times for long period .

last 4-5 months I just wouldn't hold or come back .

I got the same brand/model/size for replacement :thumb:

Interstate by far...and do not get a deep cycle living in Tampa...they won't last long in that heat..COSTCO has the best deal on Interstate batteries

I buy the cheapest ones out there. Since I don't use the battery for anything other than starting, and there seems to be very little consistency from any manufacturer, I don't see the point in dumping a bunch of money into a battery that may or may not last even 5 years.

Of course, my truck sits for long periods of time, I don't rely on it to get me to work or anything critical like that.

And who knows...the poor experiences with XYZ batteries may be due to the vehicle owner, not the batteries. My Wal-mart batteries both were/are still good 3-4 years after install. One was just sold, truck one is still in it.

i don't know about best for buck, but i've never had a problem with AC delco. And believe it or not, no problems with Optima yellow top D34 which i use in one of my cars. Long story why.

Well I got some cheapo batteries from Advance Auto with a 3 year warranty. Now that I found the air leak in my fuel system it is a million times easier to start. I had wasted away the other batteries with the consistent hard starting. Fully charged they were 300 CCA and 312 CCA.

Go interstate. I run the marine combo deepcycle/starting ones.

They rock.

Look for a corporate interstate store near you.
