Who makes the best battery? Shopping for one and am up in the air about what brand to go with. Narrowed it down to Northstar, Odyssey, or Optima.

I've had good luck with Interstate. You talking regular starting battery, deep cycle, anything weird?

There is a veery long thread here about this, search for optima or East Penn.

I've been using Deka Intimidator AGM batteries for probably 8yrs now. Heavy winching at least a couple times a year in the winter and it doesn't have a problem.

Just buy a Prius, take the battery pack, scrap the rest.

Its a crap shoot no matter who you buy a battery from or who's name is on it today,in my opinion..

There are maybe three major manufacturers in the USA and they make practically all the batteries sold by all the retailers...Exide,Johnson Control, and Interstate..

I have been keeping an eye out for a sale on batteries, but none of the stores around here have any real "deals"...so far the lowest priced "large" battery my diesel needs I have seen is an Exide group 31 ,from Tractor Supply, priced at 100 bucks...it might require some battery tray mods, but it would be worth it...over 1000 CCA and almost 2 hour reserve capacity..

Seeing most other stores want more than that for a smaller battery,I think that isn't that outrageous, but I can remember seeing the same batteries there a few years ago for 60 bucks...the prices have doubled and tripled lately on batteries..

I've been running salvage yard take outs for 30 bucks exchanged in past years with no issues,I just pick the newest ones and hope for the best..

I'm still using my 16 year old RV/Marine Deep Cycle gp27 I got at WalMart in Hemet when it was in the little version before the Super WalMart stores.

It's been totally discharged possibly three or four times and still comes right back. (I've gotta create a Headlight ON/Ignition OFF alarm someday)

Do NOT let it be less than full charge at -12ºF though! They will freeze if they're not charged.

Day to day grind.....Deka
Off Road, hard winching, lights, this thing better start or I'm walking a long way .... Two deep cycle Odyssey
