Best brand of cutoff wheels!!??

Norton. I had like 5 from my dad. Excellent life, and they don't blow up and chip like hf ones

I like the hf ones just fine, never had any problems with them. Had a couple from dewalt before, they last quite a bit longer than hf but like 3xs the price.

There is also a ck5 vendor now that sells cutoff disks and grinding wheels at a good price. I plan on trying some next time I need them but I just bought 30 from hf so it may be a while.

I've gone through a s*%t load of them recently, the HF ones cut fine but had a short life, Dewalts were better but a lot more $, Hilti ones worked good and are less $ then Dewalts, the new Home depot brand are Diablo's (used to be nortons) they are more money and didn't impress me. If you are going to be using a lot go to a building supplier and buy a case, lots cheaper then one at a time, also I don't run a guard on my angle grinders (just don't like them) so I generally use 5" wheels and for certain jobs as big as 7's :eek1: :D on my standard 4 1/2 grinder, bigger wheels are not much more $ but obviously can last longer.

And my PSA for today, while building the tube bed on my K30, while wearing safety glasss all the time and a face shield as well 90% of the time, I still ended up embedding a piece of metal in my right eye which resulted in 3 total visits to the eye doctor, which brings the suck. I've now converted to goggles when cutting / grinding, I'm using these http://www.amazon.com/Dewalt-DPG82-11C-Concealer-Anti-Fog-Safety/dp/B000RKQ1NI. For around $12, it's a lot cheaper then the eye doctor was :doah: :D

Wow! be safe. were the safety glasses you were wearing like this? This is the one that I use. I may need to get something else.

I'm not sure if you do this or not, but I just use the cut off wheels to cut almost through the metal in the pattern I want and then finish the cut with a sawzall

Doing this is has been the best thing I've found

I use 5" wheels with no shield

I haven't really noticed much different between the blackstone wheels from fastenall and dewalt wheels.

They always seem to go pretty fast on anything thicker than 1/8"

No, I was wearing a standard pair safety glasses (3M brand IIRC) , I would call those a goggle.....for me and uncomfortable goggle :D

Walter FTMFW...they cut straighter and last a ton longer than anything else.

I have used hundreds of each brand, nothing even approached Walter for performance and longevity.

Never heard of them, but I know what kind I'll be trying next :waytogo:

Leigh Valley abrasives whatever is cheapest they work pretty good.

But I like the Norton razors, you cannot use them like a grinding wheel though, your cut better be dead straight or you will blow em up. But they cut fast and last a decent amount of time

pearl redlines...or even the step down silverlines are good too
