best bumper for approach angle..

i intend to put my winch on a plate with a stinger to go thru my bumper so i only need to put it on there when i want to use it. that way it won't hurt my approach angle and i could use it on the back of my truck as well. ;)

Sooo your saying like have a reviever tube on your front bumper?

Thats what implanning on doing for mine as well.

mines pretty good i think and my plate is covering the failrlead cutout:
heres the best sideshot i have of it:

You could remove your a/c condenser , cut your core support and grille a little , and set the winch almost into the radiator . Then build yourself a stinger and a simple tube bumper . That would be real set back for approach angle :thumb:

 What about converting to electric fans (windstar or others) if you already havent and setting the fan and radiator a little closer to the engine and then you would have all kinds of space to keep the winch behind or in the grill. Not sure it would work but I have been thinking about that for mine. Plus I already have the fans

I used to own that DPI one. Bought it off Daniel but just sold it a month or so ago. Never had a winch to mount up though.

Yeah someone around here has a nice shot of a Warn 8274 that they set into their grille.

That gave me a pretty good approach angle but there isn't much bumper there (it had a Warn classic bumper on it that I hit a lot so I took it off). You can't move it back any further than I did or you will need to move the radiator. I didn't move it up any further because I was worried about leverage on the frame.

screw the bumpre, front trailer hitch (about 130) and then the winch cradle and winch itself therefore saving $$ and having a winch for pulling yourself out of situations you shouldn't have put yuorself in, and thesame approach angle.

Just another idea....pictures always helps me.

ive thought about the hidden winch idea i just want a lil protection from the rocks thats all...if something is gonna take a beating on the front its gonna be the bumper...

i did a little trimming on my grill (kept the bowtie intact:)) and stuck it right on top of the frame rails, never did get around to building the rest of the bumper... too late now
