I have see 4 options and would like to know what is best.

Option 1: There is the plastic "cover" that goes over the existing dash pad for about $100.
-How good do these really look? Problems with warping in the sun? My stock dash is trashed, foam peeling off, speaker holes rotted all the way through. Is there a point where these just don't work well?

Option 2. Some of the catalogs list two different dash pads. The first one is a factory replacement for about $250. Has anything changed on these from original? How long could one expect these to last before they just end up like the one I have now?

Option 3. There is a urathane dash replacement listed at LMC also.($225) I guess it does not have the foam? Guess it is not the factory one so what is different? How good do they look? How long would you expect one of these to last?

Option 4: Take it to an upolstry shop and pay anything less than $250 to have it covered

Has anyone done this? Picture of what you did?

I have the one from LMC on my stepside. Basically, it is urethane which is extremely resistant to cracking and the typical OEM dash killers. It is very floppy (versus the hard OEM foam) so when you take it out of the box, so you need to be careful when installing it, lining up the holes, making sure its snug....

It really is worth the money IMO....hope this helps.

I thought I just read something about fit problems with LMC? I don't remember if he mentioned which one though.

yeah it was kinda off when i bought it for the stepside, but overall it wasnt a bad deal....OEM is out of reach dollars wise, and JY dont have anything around here in good condition.

Old post I know, but check ebay that is where I got my dove grey NOS one. Got it for a steal $225 to the door. Sometimes you can get lucky on there.

Any chance you can get a pic? I'm curious how it looks both in finish, and original shape.

You say "kind of off", how so? Mounting points a couple millimeters off, or so bad you had to leave things disconnected bad? (like my LMC seals that were made with one end backwards lol)

I bought that glue on cover for 70 bucks back in 2002. Its held up good. Looks decent enough. None of my friends could ever tell the difference. It is starting to crack in one spot but for the last year and a half it has sat outside. So thats to be expected.

These pics are just for you to compare against GM and after market. This company sells a real dash pad NOT cover http://www.dashesdirect.com

I have never seen them so I can't tell you about it. I had a guy say that on some the right edge on newer style some times are not as sharp as OEM. F.W.I.W.

I went with option #1. I couldn't see the sense in a factory replacement for so much $$ when I already knew it was just a matter of time before it cracked again. I bought the truck with a carpet cover on it, but I didn't like it and I found passengers kind of picking up the edges to see what was underneath.

The fit of the "skin" was almost right, but it does pop up just a little in the center after sitting out in the sun. The instructions say to glue only around the edges and around holes and not everywhere, probably to allow for expansion. The pattern of holes for the speakers looks different than OEM and the vinyl texture is slightly different. It seems to me the brand was Coverlay. I had removed all of the old dash above the speakers because foam kept falling into them, but the skin still looks fine over the speakers.

I'm real happy with it and now when I see pictures of my old cracked dash I wonder how I ever put up with it. The thing is, you really do see the dash a lot when you drive.
