I'm wanting to repaint my frame and clean it up. Anyone had good experiences with rust bullet or other similar paints? Or am I better off taking the time and cleaning it up and then painting it. When you use rust bullet or paints similar to this, you paint right on the rust, is this correct? This is a Michigan truck so it has seen it's share of winters and salt. Thanks guys

i would go with rust bullet first then rust bullet black shell for the outer coating, my buddy did that with his frame/axles,they came out real nice.

Rust, what is this stuff you speak of??

Haha, J/K. I agree with Shaun, do the rust bullet and then do some sort of bed coating. I know Duplicolor has some good stuff in a spray can. I think the decisions will depend on if the body is on or off.

Rustoleum SUCKS. I have used Por-15 and like it. It's about $38 a quart and you will need to put a clear over it if you want it to stay gloss black, cause the sun will fade it. Other wise it will seal in rust. If you don't want a rough surface, sand blast or wire wheel it first.

you might want to check out chassis saver, that is what i am redoing my 86 k30 with and it lays down real smooth and is very durable.plus its less pricey than por-15.

I drag my frame on rocks so much that I just used hammerite. It has held up pretty well and is easy to touch up

rust bullet all the way... no need to do any prep work, unlike por15, we did half the frame on our k30 work truck with por and within 3 months it had all peeled off... i was pissed, thats why i used rustbullet on my truck, the stuff is awesome i love it... just dont get it on your hands or face for that matter

Personally, it is hard to believe any surface will have any covering stick W/O some kind of surface prep. Especially to a frame. And I guess experiences with POR-15 can vary. It has been good to me. But I prep the metal.

X2 on the hands and face though.

POR 15 says it needs a rough surface to adhere to. I have never had POR peel off. The only thing POR ever did was fade, but that was here in the EFFIN arizona sun. I just have to clear it with POR clear and it will be gloss again.

ive never used POR-15, but my buddy got his frame sandblasted and then put on POR-15 and about a year later it started rusting through the POR-15. on the flat parts of the frame, not in crevis's or tight spots, im not sure y or whatever, just putting it out there.
