Hi folks,

I want to change the bearings of my 10 bolts (front and rear). I have never done that before but I'm quite capable with those things, I also got bearing pullers and it works quite good on most of the bearings but there are certain problems:

how do I get the pinion bearings off? my puller can't grab the bearings properly and what is the best method to get the new bearings on without damaging something? Put the pinions/differential in the freezer & the new bearings in hot water or sth like that & gently hammer/push the bearings on ?

Thanks a lot

Flo

@rdn2blazer:

jep, a press would be great, unfortunately I don't own one yet.

But: I managed it to get almost all of the bearings off/on without any special tools, used the old bearing shells do press the new ones in. quite easy so far.
Still need two bearings, should arrive this week. I'm glad there are so many, shops over here in Germany,actually the C/K trucks are not as rare in Europe as one might think (a lot of the Army m1009/cucvs were sold after converting to the Humvee) but they are starting to get rare, there is a lot of salt on the road during winter time... :(

Greetings

Flo

I would check the gear mesh if i were you, its easy enough to do while you have it apart and if its bad you will want to fix it.

As far as getting bearings on/off i always have good luck with a freezer and a propane torch.
