sooo i just pulled my trans becuase it sounded like my converter or pump went, but it turns out that actually it was my th400 output shaft splines.

i figure if those were worn, the input side on my 205 is likely to be as well, hence the title question.

i now need a 205 input shaft, but i know there is a 7" and a 10", but im not sure which one i need, i have the racetrack pattern case and a th400 long output shaft. which input do i need for the np205, long or short?

second question is where do i get a quality one for as little money as possible, and how hard will it be to install it?

thanks all
rick

The short shaft will stick out of the front of the case approx. 1-1/4 inches, the long shaft will stick out more like 3-1/2 inches.

If you have a racetrack bolt pattern, and it's factory, you'll have the short input. I just switched from a short to a long for my NV4500 conversion, and i got my long input from Northwest Fabworks. They sell new ones and also often have good used ones as well, just call and ask for price and availability. I'm not sure I want to sell my short input yet, but if you get desperate pm me with an offer and we'll go from there ;)

The swap itself is easy, just search on here for "np205 input swap" or something like that.

The long 205 input is found on the round pattern 205s. 1985 and later. I will be buying a short input soon and I'm getting it from Northwest fabworks along with my doubler kit
