Well with winter nearing, and considering how busy I was last year plowing, I'm thinking of buying another truck, and having my brother help me plow. Right now I have a 94 3/4 ton short box chevy with a 7.5 foot western, and I just picked up another 7.5 foot western for dirt cheap. Last year was my first year plowing with that truck and it was kinda a pain, not being able to turn sharp etc. So my question for you guys is what trucks have you plowed with and what would you recomend. My chevy hasn't gotten stuck yet, and it breaks banks easily, but I would like to do less 5 point turns. Most of my jobs are driveways.

There aren't too many fullsize trucks that turn good. If you have a regular cab shortbox you won't find anything besides a Jeep that turns sharper. I switched from a crewcab shortbed to a K5 this year for plowing.

Best plow rig Ive ever seen was a 76 F250 with a pos 360 in it and enough cinder blocks in the back that it scaled 8800 lbs haha.

As much as I love my Chevy's, a newer Dodge can turn pretty sharp. Much sharper than any other fullsize truck out there. They designed a steering box in the late 90's that reduced turning radius quite a bit. It doesn't seem to matter if it is the diesel or the gas version, but all 3/4 and 1 tons had it. The 1/2 tons may have it as well, but I haven't dealt with them as much. If it was me, I would go with a diesel 3/4 ton short box, that will give much better fuel mileage, and a tighter turning radius.

yeh you are kinda working with an oxymoron. u havea shortbox chevy and want more. personally for a 7.5 western i wouldnt go any lighter than a 1/2 ton. my personal favorite on a plow truck was our 78 3/4ton witha 350/sm465/205/10bt/14bt ff/3.73's...worked perfect with a 10ft plow and thats not a typo that was with extenions made

I've plowed with an s10, a 85 k10 short box, and my 94 chevy 3/4. It was a pain braking banks, and I seemed to slip and slide with the k10. The s10 wasn't even fun at all. I've put so much weight in the S10, and the k10 it still didn't make too much of a difference. I think It was the no name tires that were on them. My 94 seems to be fine with just 5 40 lb bags of salt and a few shovles in the bed. I guess I just want like my 94 that turns a bit better. I guess I'll look for a 80's k20.

if you really want manuverablility, you should stay with something that has IFS.
