Whats the best riding 4" or 6" inch springs? I have a trail rig but I came across really nice rust free k5 and couldn't resist making a nice street rig.:woot: I would really like the best ride possible. Suggestions on shocks also would be nice?

welcome to your 1st thread after being here 5 yrs. remarkable, i couldn't do it. i think custom alcans have the best performance..someone will talk up

this is the internet, we don't know anything... you need to buy, install and try out many different springs to learn for yourself what works.... it's like the 70's all over...

sorry, couldn't resist, don't mind me.... :o

off the shelf recommendations will generally be tough country ez-rides or BDS... custom Alcans are another route, albeit more dinero often... i like bilstein shocks personally...

Here's the spring rate table that was pointed out to me:

You can get a good idea of which springs ride the best :) Awesome info to have!

That being said, on my Suburban, I now run Tuff Country H.D. 4" front springs, and Bilstein 7100's valved for the springs. It's a tad on the soft side; the 5100's that Bilstein specs for it were actually a tad on the stiff side for me, but I'm picky ;)

Good luck in your decision!

ya off the self tuff country ( NOT rough country stiff springs n cheep )

bds good smoth set of springs.

then if you want the all out best and dont mind the cash output custom from alcan or denver spring co.

welcom to the site and good luck . you ask and we will help. :thumb:

also look at www.offroaddesign.com good place and service/prices. :waytogo:
and www.diy4x.com he has great stuff as well. :thumb:

ez rides from tuff country i have heard nothing but great things from them. i have 6" no names on mine now and it rides or should i say rides me like a damn dump truck. when i get a job im going with 4" ez rides all the way around. post pics when your done

Wow, I just realized I've never posted. Trust me I have worn out the search button and have done alot of reading. Thanks for all your feedback. I put a set of rough country 4" on my wifes k5 and they are just awful, so i definately want a better ride. I am leaning more toward BDS, Anyone actually rinning BDS?

not a whole lot. thay cost more than tuff country and dealers are a bit hard to find.

i have a set of 8" front and 4" rear bds on my STUBBY project. no shocks yet . but that thing is soft just follin it around the shop/yard. more than other trucks i have built in the past. cant wait to ride in it.

brother has bds on his yj and loves them, but most of the guys here run tough countrys.

Hey sweetk30, werent you saying you ran the poly bushing in another thread recently? thats another suggestion if you want a better ride as well. And ill more than likely end up with bilsteins too.

i've also heard a couple iffy things about BDS's customer service.. where as i've heard nothing but glowing reports about Alcan's customer service... personally, i've got TC 4" EZ's...

Doesn't moving the shackle hanger forward to get better help a lot also?

Just out of curiousity what did you hear?

Always heard good about BDS (except for not being cheap) but I may be biased, they are from Michigan.

a couple guys have b*tched in here the last yr or so about how they would NEVER deal with them again after dealing with their customer service department...

who knows, they may have had a jerk working there or something for awhile... maybe they'll chime in, i just remember a couple posts about it...

Hrmmmm. Their warranty still the no questions asked replacement policy?

i think so... i was a little surprised to hear the complaints, as i too had only heard good about bds.. other than price and availability.... like i said, may have been a short term thing or something..

Weird. Be interesting to see what might have caused it.
