OK so after hours of searching different set ups I am hoping for some input. I just got a 91 3/4ton Burb.:D I want to run 35's and that leeds me think about a 4" lift from ORD. Been lookin @ 52" front swap as well but some say bad for the street.
So.....for a daily driven, 80% street/highway / 20% Off road, toy hauler and camper whats the best all around choices? I want the cross over steering but lose the sway bar . I'm thinking the sway bar is more important then better steering for the highway. I'm definately a newbie and could use a little direction as the wealth of info is over whelming. Thanks all who take time to help. Take care.

I'd look to some Tough Country EZ-rides or BDS... TC's being a bit cheaper.. Stephen at ORD can hook ya up on TC's....

I am.... unless your looking for a ton of offroad articulation, I'd stay with stock length...

So you think the stock 47" frt springs are the best to stay with?

Yeah, 52's are really meant for rigs that are mostly trail oriented and it will require crossover steering.

Get front springs from BDS or Tuff Country and get a shackle flip for the rear. You may want to add a zero rate to the rear to level it out, old Chevy trucks tend to sag a little in the rear.

You'll also need a raised steering arm, see how you like that with what you plan to use the truck for. I always felt it was fine on the street, it was an issue on the trail sometimes but not terrible with what I did at the time.

Crossover is the best but that's more money.

Ok so stock 47's it is. I love the idea of the cross over and money I don't mind spending when its worth while. What do you think about the loss of the sway bar for the road?

It should be fine without the swaybar, not many run them anymore. It does lean some but just dont indy 500 the thing.

I towed my car to the track a few times without (6hr round trip). It was fine.

Yup, it wont corner like the STi.

As mentioned, even though these trucks have a pretty big sway bar on them they don't do much. Most people take them off and don't notice a difference.

As for steering, crossover is going to help you more offroad than on but it is a MUCH better all around setup. A search will help you find lots of opinions and the difference between the setups.

i forgot to mention that i did the crossover steering the same time as when i ditched my swaybar. i also have hydro assist, but i do not tow w/ mine the tires are a little large :D

All good suggestions here, Stock is what you want to stay with. TC Easy rides still will flex nicely off road for what you want to do. Just get some sway bar disc conects and then you can run it if you want on road and disc conect it when off road. But like has been said most people take it off, throw it away and never look back. Try running it, towing and street use and little bit of offroad, then take it off and see what you think, if you miss it, put it back on, if ya don't, don't. The benifits offroad will make you want to keep it off more then likely, and deal with the small amount of body roll you get with it off.

Its all about perspective. What are you used to? If you are used to a sports car ditching the sway bar may have more effect than if you are used to a one ton truck

Like has been said remain stock as far as spring length, but do the upgrades to the steering. No matter what when you are driving your truck you are always steering. It is well worth it. My favorite mod I made on most of my trucks involved steering, just made them more fun to drive.

We took the swaybar off a friends blazer, he tows a boat with it. Just plain forgot to put it back on, he never missed it. That seems to be the general consensus. swaybar doesn't do much, but pretty much everyone loves their x over steering.

Thank you all very much for your input. I think I'll ditch the ideas of spring conversions and all. I'm still very interested in the xover steering but will try the missing sway bar idea first. If all goes well the steering may follow. By the way you guy's on this forum really kick a** and I'm quite happy to have become part of the family. Take care ya'll
