np 205 unless you have access to a 203-205 doubler /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I have two of them, but one is getting shipped out. The other is gonna be for My future doubler /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

any 70-80 chevy truck with a stick, except for i think 74, that year had a 203. you can also get them on autos in certain years, in 80 the 205 came in autos and sticks but had a slip yoke.

if you are wanting to go with a 205, it may be easier to get a 465/205 assembly. the 465 you have is a 32 output spline and the 465 version 205 was a 10 spline.

Most guys here will recommen the 205 for brute strenght but you get lower gearing with the 208 and I have heard seldom issues with these t cases. The one downer i can think of is the slip yoke in the rear instead of a fixed yoke w/ the 205. If you snap a rear drive shaft you can still drive in front wheel drive with the 205. Fixed yoke will keep fluid in. Slip yoke - driveshaft will allow fluid to leak /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Now that I have thought about it some more I would say go with the 205 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Would I have much luck just ripping one out of a junkyard or should I wait and buy from a member around here?

I'm just talking about the 456/205 combo.

Easy money. Just look for any 73-80 fullsize GM 4X4 with a 4 speed and it will have the 465/205 combo. Some of the 74's had the NP203 fulltime case just so You know. After 80' pretty much the 1 ton got the 465/205 combo, which is a little harder to find than the trucks from the 70's.
If You do find a 74 with a 465/203(very rare) grab onto it they're worth money, I know a few guys looking for them.

The 465/205 combo could be had starting in 1970. 68-69 you could get the 465/Rockwell T221. Some K5's had 465/dana 20 combos.

Also, I believe the later model 465 came with a higher spline count on the output shaft w/ the 205, I think this happened around the time of the hydro clutch.

I have also heard that the 465 came with the np241 behind it in 88-91 "old style" trucks, but i've never seen this combo.
