In 2007 they ran through texas, a few rigs had them then also.

That is the older style.... The KM2's are geared more towards offroad and are based off the Krawler. They are supposed to have tougher sidewalls then the older version you posted a pic of. They are $$$$ but they are still new too I saw an ad for TireRack.com in Petersens and the new Goodyear Kevlars are much cheaper.... I know the MTR had a HUGE following and these are slated to be just as tough or tougher and have friendlier street manners.

Just my .02

I'm surprised no one has brought up the Toyo M/T's. They seem to be what everyone craves in my neck of the woods. As long as white walls aren't important.

Do they still make those?

The KM2's are a little pricey and to be honest they don't look like they'd be as good as the older ones in mud which will be most of the wheeling I'll be doing.

How do the old bfg muds compare to the tsl radials mud wise?

Yeah they still make the older style bfgs. The Tsls will do better in the mud but cost more. I think the Iroks incoperate similar design of the tsls as well. The pro comp mts run the exact same lug pattern as the older bfg mts and they usually have a rebate of some sort or a buy 3 tires get 1 free type deal thats why they tend to be a bit cheaper in price. I think pro comp has a 150 dollar rebate if you spend over 500 bucks right now. Not sure of that but worth a look. Especially if your buying 5 tires to have a good spare. Dont forget to check craigs list as well some times you can get killer deals on barley used tires.

Also when i say lugs i dont mean wheel lugs i mean mug lugs or trad pattern we call em mud lugs down round here. ;)

I was thinking these ones...

you won't be disappointed w/ those. i've had a few sets now. they handle well on the road and and should be good for about 50k miles. i've never been stuck where i thought it was due to the tread not cleaning out (been hi centered plenty of times:crazy:z). i've never had a problem cutting one on the rocks either, even after a bunch of trips to rausch and paragon (my friends have cut their iroks numerous times on the same trips). if you look at the new km2 you'll see it has lugs wrapping around from the tread adding protection and grip to the sidewall and the main lugs are now siped (something that was sorely missing). both new features should make them better on and off road.

Everyone else appears to know quite a bit more about this than I do. But, the guys at Schwabbie told me that the BFG M/T's were gonna vibrate on my rig. They said thats just what those tires are prone to do. They must have just been trying to sell me a set of Toyos. Glad I went with the BFG's, only got about 30 miles on them then got a wreck. :(

I stopped by a tire place on the way to work this morning to see if they had the 35" KM2's i want in stock, b/c they were nationally backordered last time I had checked. They took me out back to show me a set and it was all I could do not to buy them right then and there...but i decided to wait til my truck was actually driveable:doah:

have you tried nitto terra grapplers? I had them on my 99 silverado and loved them! quiet on the street and I was surprized with them off road. my jeep buddies said the same.

i saw my first pair of nittos in person recently at my local shop. had some 37s sitting there. i was surprised that the tread was so shallow (almost 1/4" less than the pro comps right next to them). i wouldn't buy the nottos just for that alone. i doubt they'd last long.

I cant remember how long I had mine but I couldnt wait to take the pro comps I had off! they make street driving almost unbareble. maybe that tall tread last longer but it sucks on the road. One of my buddies had a set of goodyear mt's on his jeep and they were surprisingly quiet.

wow... looks like alot of people like the bfg's. But now I'm wondering which ones? Old style or new(km2)?

I'm on the fence between the old style bfg's and the tsl radials. The tsl's seem like they'll do better in mud but won't last as long... Just wondering if that extra bit of traction for the tsl's is worth loosing the longevity of the bfg's.

:) it sucks having to worry about road worthyness. You ever thought about Thornbyrds? Another buddy of mine swears by them for dual purpose. I looked at em but just abit pricey for my wallet. Just another thought.

The thornturds don't have a very good reputation... They turn themselves into slicks in a heartbeak once mud touches them. I haven't run them nor have I seen them in mud (in person) but judging from all the jokes made about them and the bad reviews, I'd say they are just about the worst tire you could put on a 4x4.

I have had (old style) BFG mud terrains on two double duty 4x4's and I liked them a LOT! I have Cooper STT muds on my jimmy now and when it was driveable, they rode nice and were good offroad (limited driving experience overall though). The Jimmy had TSL radial swampers on it at first, I never wheeled it with them but I did street drive it and I was surprised by how quiet and nice riding they were (had never driven a vehicle with swampers before) I'm not saying they were passenger car quiet (they weren't) just saying they were quieter than I expected. Anyways, my vote outta the choices would be old style mud terrains for dual duty.
