Best tool for \"trimming fenders\"???

I'm looking at WHACKING my fenders to fit 42s under the K5 with only 7" of lift total... so here is the question, which tool can make the cleanest lines and still make arc's in the fender with ease?

<FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="http://coloradok5.com/forums/dopoll.php"><INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME="pollname" VALUE="1046411629KRAZIE87K5">

Which tool would you want to use to trim your fenders?
<input type="radio" name="option" value="1" />Sawzall
<input type="radio" name="option" value="2" />Cut off tool (3" disc)
<input type="radio" name="option" value="3" />Air nibbler
<input type="radio" name="option" value="4" />Other (please specify)
<INPUT TYPE=Submit NAME=Submit VALUE="Submit vote" class="buttons"></form>

Thanks all for your help!

Plasma Cutter /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I'm poor so I used the Sawzall

well since you probly dont need this thing to be a complete beastie you might consider what i got. I ran down to harbor frieght and grabed a pistol grip air nibler for $45. Perty good and it did my fender triming in 30secs! well worth the cash, that and it will make a much nicer edge than a sawz all.

Re: Best tool for \"trimming fenders\"???

Nibbler... thats the way I am leaning too... did it really make it that much faster and a cleaner cut too? If so, I may just have my answer! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I did the harbor freight air nibbler as well, but used a Sawall for some of the more stubborn areas of the dual fender wall.

Hey dan, quit being a bitch. Let's whip out the sawzall and torch since we already have them and trim the damn things up. I'm king of the blade!!!

Smack him down Bryan!!! Actually, I have head the air nibbler works great. How about you buy one, use it then list the part number when you know it works good! - "Bioch" /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Best tool for \"trimming fenders\"???

Doesn't a plasma cutter generate a decent amount of heat? Won't that heat then burn the snot out of the paint thats on the fenders? /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

A plasm a cutter dosnt generate much heat. As fast as you would be moving cutting somthing as thin as a fender, it shouldnt cause a problem.

Interco Tires makes an excellent fender trimming tool. They call it The Super Swamper TSL.

Here is a picture:

This tool is very simple to operate. Once the tool is mounted on a suitable rim, bolt it up to the hubs on your truck and go wheeling. After a short drive through the mud and rocks all of the unneccesary fender pieces will be nicely trimmed away.

The only downfall is that you may have to do some minor finishing to the edges after using this tool as the Super Swamper TSL is notorious for leaving jagged edges after performing a trim.

Agreed! I was hoping that I wouldn't have to go that route! :-p

Re: Best tool for \"trimming fenders\"???

A plasma cutter generates an extremely hot flame. However there is no pre heat time like with a torch so the material being cut doesn't have time to soak up any of that heat. Most thin stuff is barely warm to the touch after being cut with a plasma.

Sorry for the confusion, what I was trying to say was that it doesnt leave alot of heat like a torch does. Ive used mine on bodypanels and your right, you can pretty much touch them as soon as your done cutting.

Re: Best tool for \"trimming fenders\"???

Air recipricating saw with a shortened blade, makes the cuts look real purdy like. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Best tool for \"trimming fenders\"???

I moved my front axle forward an 1" and was going to Hollister the next day so had to cut that front lip quick-style.
I used a die grinder, and it turned out pretty good. MY friend works at a body shop now, so he is going to cut
them 1 1/2" 's up all the way around and make it look like stock /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I will let you know what he uses and how
it turnes out. Should look perfect. Later
