Best way to change valve springs ...?

I just used the full pressure available from the compressor in the cylinders, and didn't worry about the crankshaft turning. Never dropped a valve, but only done this job twice. It seemed to me that I would have to screw up decently to drop one against 120 psi. It holds the valves nicely when you pop the retainer locks.
:dunno:
And I have seen cylinder pressure that high on a compression test, so why not?

Please explain if I am missing something, since I had both engines run great afterwards.

Tools added :waytogo:. Think I'm going to go the "remove all rockers, input 100psi" route.

Nice that's the same tool I used to do mine.
Are you replacing just the springs and reusing the keepers and hat seals
Remember for as simple as it may seem
We like pictures, that way someone can find it on the search function.

I'm going to hopefully keep the keepers and retainers.
If the retainers work with the new springs anyway.
The engine was supposedly built not long before I bought it. And I was told it had a "stage 2 RV cam" whatever that's supposed to be :dunno:. Guy told me one step above an RV cam.
I've only put about 500 miles MAYBE on it, in the time I've owned it.
Dude that found my spring issue builds and races REAL cars. Like 2000 hp Novas and such. He thinks the cam is bigger than that.

I'm guessing that the retainers and keepers are probably fine. They just used the wrong springs. I my self had no idea that there was a difference between solid lifter springs and hydraulic lifter springs. I just thought you bought the toughest ones you could afford. As the PO must have also thought.

As for seals, I plan on replacing them while I'm in there just because they're cheap, and I'm in there.
My current springs are double coil. And every double coil I've found required the positive style seals, and machining. So I'm assuming the machining for that is done. I'll see when I get in there.

The engine is in this by the way. I'll end up linking this thread in that one too I guess.
