Best way, to Cleaning up oil in driveway

I use Red Hot Degreaser

I read that Coke removes oil stains, I tried it in my garage, did wonders on some, others it did not do much at all. Brake or carb cleaner in a couple of sessions works the best on cement in my opinion.

kitty litter for a day, then sweep it up. it will most likely still be a big stain. i have a pressure washer i use. it works great. you can even write your name with it on the stains.

not all of us can afford a pressure washer or have friends with one, but we can go buy kitty litter from the store.

I use kitty litter and on really tough stains and where my driveway is asphalt I use a biodegradeable degreaser. It is the ZAP version of simple green then scrub it in with a stiff bristle brush then rinse it off. It worked pretty good. On concrete I just set the kitty litter on it and it pulls it right out.

Ok ive inherited some leaks.:haha: WHats the best way to clean off you driveway from oil/trans & fliuds? In your guys opinion?

Shoot!

How bad is it?

I use liquid laundry detergent (Dynamo seems to work best but Wisk is a close second; Wisk has salt in it though) to get the crud off with a stiff broom.

Then, if all that is left is grease and stains... I use Tide powder laundry detergent. A whole large box will do a 10x20 area. This is guaranteed to clean it off... but if you're working on asphalt it'll usually take any sealers off with it. Tide powdered form works so good that there is virtually nothing left on the asphalt except stones... so if your asphalt is dry it'll usually cause it to crumble.

Tide liquid form didn't work worth a **** last time I tried, so don't even bother with it.

I mentioned a pressure washer!

They use Rice Hull Ash at New England Dragway to mop up spills..they say nothing works better...wonder if its NHRA approved?

I have no idea where to get it,other than the "Grease Sweep" stuff you might find at a maintenence supply place...it'd take forever to de-hull enough grains of Uncle Bens rice, and burn them to get the ash!..:p: ..

I've gotten by with kitty litter,speedi-dri,etc,ground in with a brick and rinsed after..I tried pouring gasoline on a gear oil stain and lit it with a lighter..the asphalt got so hot it melted, and the stain was still visible, though the wet oil did dissapear..make tons of white horrid smelling smoke, took 15 minutes before it went out!..I also used a 2500 psi pressure washer once, and carved a nice hole right down to the crushed stone base!..:doah:

Back in 1986,my 72 K5 peuked gear oil and motor oil all over the driveway..my dad always freaked out about oil spills on the asphalt..I tried a lot of detergents, and cleaners made by "Gunk" for cleaning driveways(kerosene if you ask me!) and even "TSP" (trisodium phosphate) and other cleaners..nothing really did any better than kitty litter and a brick did..

However...now,20 years later,I'm hard pressed to find even a TRACE of the forementioned oil spots, that WERE quite bad!...mother nature, rain, snow, and sand worked miracles!..all I had to do was NOTHING...and wait!...:doah:

You weren't paying attention,were you??...:p:

How does a power washer remove oil stains? aren't you just pushing in deeper in the concrete, so you don't see it as much? And yes I do have a power washer.....

When I was changing my tranny pan gasket a couple weeks ago, I slipped and spilled about 5 quarts of transmission fluid all over the cement - so far, that's the best 'cleaning' method I've found. No more small spots or stains, it's all one color now...
