Best way to dechrome a wheel?

I got some freebie rims from my bro for the buggy project and I want to get them blasted or dipped so I can weld on my rings and get them painted. the brake dust has thrashed the front two and the chrome is pitted. is there an easy way to clean them up, like a wire wheel or do they need to be dipped or blasted?

I don't think blasting will do it quickly or effectively. I think a chemical dip will remove the chrome.

If it were me, I'd dip them and then blast them to make sure the surface is 100% cleaned up.
