I took my diff cover off to service the diff, just change out the fluid and putting a new seal on, so what is the best way to remove old digg gasket, it is not the rubbery kind, but the paper kind, it is pretty hardened on there, i have been using a wire brush on a drill but that is taking forever.

90 degree die grinder with the gasket remover pad on it, should take 30 seconds and not take off any metal. Or you can use a special gasket scraper that looks like a skrew driver but has a 1" wide blade on the end. Or a paint scraper with a razor blade on the end, but those are dangerous and the blade tends to break often.

I use a good old gasket scraper(a razor blade inserted in a handle) and a wire brush to get the residue off. In the future, using black Permatex instead of a gasket will eliminate some of the frustration of servicing your diffs.

Does anybody know if they make a reusable gasket for older vehicles? The gasket on my 07 Ram can be used over and over again- it's a rubber gasket with a steel ring built into it. Someone must have incorporated this technology into aftermarket diff gaskets for K5s........
