What is the best way to remove the old crusty/hard trim residue from the body? Haven't tried goo gone yet but the adhesive is pretty hard crusty.

I used a sharp plastic scraper. Think it's actually a plastic mud knife as I found it in the drywall tools. But that and "goo gone" worked perfect.

Just like these.

Scrape most of it off, spay it with goo gone, let it sit, and rescrape/wipe.
Repeat with the goo gone till done.

I've done it on a few newer Chevys, and a couple older cars. Never scratched one.

I have found Goo Gone to be very weak compared to adhesive remover in a spray can from 3M.

Heat gun and 3M Eraser Wheel.

Next time, pop emblems off with fishing line or piano wire first. It splits the foam part in half and makes it easier for the Eraser Wheel to grab it without worrying about heating up the paint more than the paint can take.
