My 88 is leaking trans fluid. It is a mess there is fluid from the cross member
all the way back to the trailer hitch. And I mean a nice thick coating on every thing. Its clean trans fluid that Im sure of and it leaks while its not running. I put paper on the drive way under it and duck taped it down. After 24 hours or so it looks like the main leak is near the cross member at the skid plate. I have gone after the old fluid on every thing 3 times now with super clean, simple green and engine brite degreaser in spray cans. This stuff is stuck like chuck on the trans and transfur case. So I have two questions I guess. How to get the fluid cleaned off and how to trace down the leak. It has to have been leaking a long time. I just got the truck a few weeks ago and I have found 8 one quart bottles of trans fluid empty and stashed all over. One stuffed in a hole in the fender with a funnel in the engine bay. He sure did not tell me the whole truth thats for sure. I asked and he said the leak was repaired and he just never cleaned it up. But for $200 what can I expect I guess.

As a foot note there is a newer 350 GM crate motor in it and a new rad.

A trick a friend tought me was when using one of those foaming type degreasers or something like that use a power washer if possible. I went to a self serve car wash since I dont have one. Within a minute or so the underside was much cleaner and I was able to identify several key things on an old truck I had. Hope this helps take care

If its near the crossmember it is probabley the adapter for trans to transfer. the gaskets are under $20 for both. dealer item though.
