Best year Blazers to buy

Hold out for the 2010 Blazer, as it will have full convertible/soft-top, solid 1-ton axles, 37" tires, 3-speed transfer case and LS7 V8 from the factory.

OK, just dreaming again...sorry.
thats a nice dream you have :haha:

for $4K you should be able to find a bone stock mint truck from an old person who probably tool good care of it before you get your hands on it.

for $1K to $2K you can pick up anything and put all the work in yourself.

But I would recommend buying a truck that has already been modified by a person who wheels it often, just make sure that it is not built half ass. Modified trucks get sold for a fraction of what the modifications cost the original owner.

The OP's question is why I looked this site up. I used to be a member years back. Got rid of my K5 thoug.

Now I'm looking for another.

To be a reliable vehicle #1, a vehicle with room for a family #2, and be able to do anything I want of it #3.

FWIW that means an 89-91, over time rebuild the mechanical systems, and add carefull upgrades that will improve the truck for me. I don't want, and can't afford some of the awesome wheeling machines the other guys have.

I'll focus on suspension upgrades as that's what I'm into most coming from Camaro and BMW autocross cars...

Everything else I'm all ears.

There's a blazer on 29th Ave and Lincoln St on the west side for sale. Ben there for a while and it might be an 87 up style. I can get the info for you if you like. I live up the the street from it

I have a stock 89 blazer. ran it through emissions sat, no problem. they didn't even run the whole test. but i keep my stuff running good. also both my mid 70's nova's don't have to go through emission's, but they are under classic ins

That would be very nice of you...I see there are quite a few members from Arizona. I don't wanna ask too much, but if you're capable of snapping a pic or two I can give you my email. I'm actually in the far east valley, Mesa to be exact so that's a bit of a drive. However if I like what I see and hear then it's not too far to take a more in depth look!

I certainly appreciate all of the responses I've gotten so far! Hopefully I'll find a blazer I like soon and become a full fledged member!

Unfortunately Arizona is terrible when it comes to emissions. The only vehicles exempt are 1966 and earlier.

What about a diesel? It should be exempt for sure. If so, buy a diesel and swap a small block in it.

I dont know about there but here in Anchorage at inspection time they verify that its still a Diesel

I purchase a vehicle that had the Edelbrock fuel injection system on it.

I did not like it at all, and absolutely can't recommend it to anyone.

I still look for clean '87 and up K5's here in AZ, and those that are seem to go for well more than $4k.

My '77 with a four speed passes emissions easily here in Maricopa County. You can do quite a bit more mods to the earlier trucks down here and get away with it. Later ones, you'd better hope that all the EPA fixen's work well! Remember too, that those later model R4 AC compressors blow chunks. Literally!

I was always fond of the '70-'72 years, but they can be pricey. The '73-'75 years are full vert and here in CA they're smog exempt as well as '77 and under. I have a '75 that my two toddler boys love helping fix up and it's great for my family. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Actually the air in my 89 blows ice cold, so not sure about the compressor. there are a lot of thing's you can do to fuel injected model's. it's just different how you go about it. I leave mine stock so if Im in nowhere USA i can get part's from joe's auto part's. just to get it home, then go get dealer part's to fix it right. I love edelbrock product's but if any of the senser's go out are they the same as factory. I don't know.

One of the things I don't like on the later ones is the rear seat belt bolts, for top removal. Can't recall the year split, probably about '88 on that, my '87 doesn't have the ones bolted to the top. Not a big issue, but IMO the '87-91's otherwise are the best there are. (of course, full removable top and emissions exemption in some locales is important)

241 t-case '89+, '88+ better trans (although likely already rebuilt regardless of year lol), '90-91 electronic speedometers, both seats fold/slide forward for '85 (some) and all after, radio dash cutout in about '88 or so is made for modern radios...and probably a few other things I've forgotten. Injection of course is the major difference in driveability.

My '89 did not have the seat belts bolted to the top, my '91 does, so it must have started in '90 or '91 (assuming they all changed at the same time).

I prefer the shoulder belts for rear passenger safety. My plan is to bolt them to the cage when I build one so they can stay on with the top off.
