Thunder
3/4 ton status
No havent changed my mind. I still think the Screamin Demon coil is a very good unit. Espically when combined with one of perfomance distributors Dyna mods.
The main reason I recomended the MSD in this post is the guy is looking for cheap mods and you can usually buy them at many parts stores for under $50.00 and dont have to mail order.
I am running a blaster 2 coil in my 5.0 Mustang and like it.
Re:The flipped air cleaner lid
In my opinnion it is best to leave the stock air tube in instead of flipping the air cleaner over. It draws cool air from the front of the truck. Cool air is denser = more performance. When you flip the lid over it draws hot engine air and can acually hurt performance espically in the summer. The main flow blockage in the air tube/air cleaner housing is the heat riser valve. It can be removed by drilling out the rivits the flapper taken out then re instal the plate and plug the hole with no ill effects. You can also cut out the hole in the front of the air box to get added air. The stock air tube flows plenty of air for a TBI system
Stock TBs only flow around 480 cfm. A stock 350 should have 530 to 550 CFM to get max performance
The mods from turbocity will get you in that range.
I have found that when you increase the air flow it helps to get the fuel pressure up to around 14 psi to get the most from those mods. You will need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to do this. Or if you have the right tools and are handy with them There is some info over at thirdgen.org on how to increase fuel pressure without buying an adjustable fuel press regulator. If you put in an injector spacer this mod can be done at the same time.
Good luck on your mods. feel free to pm me if you have Qs?
One thing I would like to add to this post is:
Change Your Fuel Filter yearly!
I just changed mine because my Blazer was acting a little sluggish. It was almost completly plugged and only had around 10K miles on it.I think FFs plug up quicker in 4x4s because the sediment in the tank gets shook up bouncing around off road. Good fuel pressure in FId trucks is critical for performance and gas mileage.
