i have ran both on the same style truck and would have to vote for bfg... the thornbirds are god awful. i only paid 75 for the set now i know why. i was literally stuck in 2inches of snow on pavement in 2wd. the thornbirds do look cool though. and have a better sidewall... so its a catch 22. id rather have the a/ts especially on a street driven truck

i said the hell with both of those and bought boggers, its a trailered rig though

I was getting into my k5 the other day at the store when a guy pulled up in a Chev IFS stepside on 38 Thornturds. He was asking me about my k5 and what not, when he stated that I need to get rid of my Claws in and get some Thornbirds:haha:. He claimed his thornbirds are awesome in the mud:haha::haha:. I just looked at him....smile and nod....smile and nod..............................smile and nod:screwy::screwy::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

they've been great on the street so far. I had some 35s on my old 86 that I ran for a long time and really liked them, so I figured I'd get some 38s. Haven't got to test these 38s off-road yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with them. I just wanted a 38 I could dd (without being beat to death) and also work well off-road, so that's why I went with the claws again. I put the airsoft pellets in them to balance them as well and they ride smooth up until about 75mph or so, then they start to jump a little bit. (of course, who really needs to be driving over 75 in a jacked up k5 on 38s :D)

I've been running 33bfg mts and want to go up to a 37 and I'm having trouble deciding either claws or the new bfg mts km2

Thanx for the info, this is by far the most involved build that I will do for years,I'm four linking the rear and two linking the front,it'll be sick when it's done!

I'll start one, this is only the second day I've been on here and I'm gonna go ahead and become a full member,if you ever have any body/paint questions let me know,I've been a bodyman for 14yrs.thanx again for your input

Number of years ago I was sitting in a 4x4 shop waiting for my truck to get done, BSing with the owner. Guy walks in and starts trying to engage the owner in conversation. Starts talking about his baddass truck (aka typical Michigan mud truck) an older Chevy with some lift and some 'BIRDS man! Says how great they are and such and yadda yadda...
...ends up just looking around the lobby a bit and walks out. Long arms, heim joints, hydro steering, Deaver leaf springs, etc didn't mean much to him so he seemed a bit lost.
As soon as he was out the door the owner and I busted out laughing.

I 'hate birds. Seen them fail too much and I've known the truth about them since before I even had a good 4x4 or was into the hobby all that much. 5 years ago my bud put a set of the 35x14.5's on his K20 and I told him it was a mistake. He'd never had real muds though so he thought they were bad ass and loved how the side lugs tore up the mud and made big gobs fly...
...then our buddy with a bone stock IFS 4x4 Ford Ranger on 32" radial muds did everything he did and then some more...
...and then I got him a free set of 16.5" chrome rims that came with some about 20% tread SSR's in the same size as his 'birds. He put them on and discovered they were better offroad than his still fairly healthy 'birds.

don't lose your teeth......

I test drove a truck many years ago that had 'birds, when they were first introduced and were thought to be the s***. Well, they sucked and were the reason I didn't buy that truck, well that and it was a furd. If you like your teeth, and your hearing, you won't get em. They are LOUD and ROUGH. I didn't even try em in the dirt after the way they did on the street. Man, I couldn''t get that truck back to the owner fast enough. I have never had BFG A/Ts personnaly, but I have some buddys that have them, and they do great on the street, and last quite a while. I have had BFG M/Ts, and they are a good "all around" tire, too.

Thats reason enough for Interco to keep producing them. Theres always a sucker out there somewhere that will buy them.
They think that they look really cool so they must have great off road performance.

Right?

:shame:

Ive had both the BFG all terrains and Mud terrains. Ill never go back to the AT's, more like a street tire IMO, at least for what I use them for. Dont wast your time on the Thornbirds either, Friend had a set and hated them.

I had a 79 shortbed with 33 14.50 15 birds on it and they shook that bad i hated to drive it (we use to joke about it shakin your teeth out), i switched em to 35 bfg muds and it was like a new truck, i sold the birds to a guy which im friends with now and he has em on his jeep....its a 2 hander to drive and it sux in mud and snow so here its really useless... so my part if they were free id take em if i had to pay no way they suck....i think the bfg at is a good tire for all around not like a mud tire in mud but will work decently, and wear awesome on the street...
