BIG BLOCK GUYS: Identify this block.

well I would like to get out of the engine for 1500 or so carb to headers. I gotta build this whole truck, so if I can get a good engine and only have to put gaskets, and maybe bearings/rings in it, that would sure help the cause. Are Vortecs reasonable used?
I should mention that I'll only give 500$ for it if the pistons/bores are in good enough shape to run, with a hone, I don't want to pay this, and have to bore and new pistons.

the Vortecs can be found cheap on ebay, and there pretty reasonable new, there is some gaket issues IIRC but you just have to do your home work. I Run dart and AFR on my BBC I have about 7 sets of stock oval ports that I have know clue what they are I always assumed stock truck truck heads were junk so I never used them.

Guess I should dig through them and read the casting #'s

you could just send all your 'jumk' BBC stuff my way. I'd be happy to dispose of it for free! :D

well if I ever sell my house in NM I'll drop the stuff off on my trip(s) North!

well Surrey isn't to far from Bellingham so it could happen!

I bought this engine tonight...standard bore, should be able to hone and re-ring it if the taper is ok. Only enough of a ridge to feel with your fingertip, but not enough to catch your fingernail.
Crank may need to be turned, has some marks on it, but not grooved at all. .010 should clean it up fine. He is giving me 2 sets of heads, the peanut ports that came on it, and a set of large oval ports...the 6136 heads, which he said came off a Mercruiser engine. He's a drag racer, and lives close by. We even use the same machine shop. I'll call the machinist tomorrow to get a reference from him.

So Iron Maiden will be getting big block power.

Thanks for the insight, and help fellas.

Hey guys whats the opinion on these 6136 heads....right now they look like stock large oval ports. Can't see where any grinding has been done to them. They have 2.06/1.72 valves in right now. I plan on making 5K the redline on this engine. I run from 1200 up to 5000 when I wheel. I plan on putting in a 1500-5000 rpm cam, and dual plane intake, and probably headers.

I'm not sure if they will need springs, but the valves look good. I'll plan on a rebuild of them, and maybe some port work too.

Are these heads up to the task at hand?

I followed that build Greg, sweet stuff. Are they all running now?

I haven't been able to find any info on these 6136 heads. They are large ovals, and Open Chamber I believe. Just wondered if they are worth the $$ to rebuild them.

Tornado as in Car, or Tornado as in huge can of whoop ass?
And if your bringing apples, I like Fuji's.

Yep I'm going for it Daryl, the Iron Maiden project will start as soon as I wrap up the Vette mods for the winter.
Still trying to get sh!t together to get going on this project.

too funny Daryl, but I have to warn you, the Tornado is only good for 106 hp, and that was on a big block...

This is the block I got.

Bore is 4.25
Stroke is 4.0
Pistons have a 10 on the dome, with one small valve relief
The casting id's are 14015445, GM1P CFD, *213*

I'm guessing the casting date must be Feb. 13? with no year in the cast date.

Have you ever seen these type of pistons?

The PO said this came out of a 86 Dually, but it must be a service block. The CFD (Chevrolet Foundry Division) is something new to me, but I understand it is common. There is no identifying numbers on the Block pad. I doesn't look like it has been decked to me (no swirl marks from machining)

i would think the 10 on the pistons means its been bored .010 over...that's the only time I've ever seen #'s stamped on the pistons, but maybe some other reason I've never heard of :dunno: I'm a bbc newb myself...i know sbc's like the back of my hand(i have a dozen or so sbc's,all 350's, except 1 400 and 1 sj 327 that i'm trying to find a block for) but I've gathered up 3 454's..1 427 short block & i've drug up a 366..i'm lookin for a block to use the 366 crank in, to make another 427. i will then have enuff to put a bbc in everything i have. :D
