Got a question been looking at intakes for the 454 that came in a truck I scrapped. I have noticed that there are oval ports or square ports. Do I have to pull the old one to find out ? It was in a 89 gmc k3500 cab and chassis and was orignal with a q jet and all the emissons stuff.

That vintage might be peanut port but could be reg oval port . Pull a valve cover and run the casting no's to find out .

If it is peanut port, Weiand makes an intake specifically for those heads. I think they are the only one. That's the one I'm running.

Since peanut ports stop flowing just over 4k is it worth the cost of putting an aftermarket intake on it? (no offense to the OP)

Depends how you define "worth". My reasoning was marginal weight loss and performance improvement plus I like the looks.
