Big Block Out

What are the stats on the 402?

Nothing special pretty stock, I'll put a hi-rise and the chrome dress up kit on it, detail the engine bay and get it back on the road its time for driving. The 396 started knocking bad last fall not sure whats up right now, but a quick look shows bad wear on one cam lobe and lifter maybe a oiling problem.

Trying to re-assemble the gaskets on my engine, if I follow the (how to rebuild BBC engines book) should be ok?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "gaskets" but for the intake manifold conventional wisdom is to throw away those cork strips that come with the kits for the front and rear sealing surfaces and lay down a 3/8" bead of black RTV instead. The cork ones almost always develop leaks.

Engine block and accessories look killer in that "old school" color combination....but, those shock boots are a horrible throwback to the 80's show truck circuit. I hope those are going away completely....or at least getting replaced with basic black ones?? :deal:

Gaskets and seals.Yes more information would have helped. I have the Fel-pro products and just wondering if the assembly they note in the book using the RTV and gaskets would that be ok. this engine assembly thing is new to me.

any chevy engine toss the end gaskets and use 3/8 " bead of black rtv let sit for min 15 min. then smack that intake on and go for it.

end gaskets spit out and oil all over the place.

if you used them stop and redo the job. you will thank your self now.

i eat a $35 buck set of gaskets cause i screwed up 1 time. i also sleept betterthan night knowing i did it right the 2nd time.
