(this is NOT a for sale thread!) so, i've got this 454 sitting in the corner in my garage. i brought it up in conversation with a co-worker, and he immediately expressed interest in it. asking me how much i wanted for it. i'm not real sure what a fair price for a big block is, so maybe you guys can help me. its a 90-91 Mark IV block (cast # 10069286) with 4 bolt mains. its supposedly been bored .030", and i know it had a mild cam in it, but it looks like it needs new valve springs (judging by the jumping vac gauge readings, popping through the carb, and previous experience with similar symptoms). the heads are oval ports, cast #14081045. the only info i can find on them is "78-87, oval port, open chambers". the engine ran good, until it began to lose power, and started popping through the carb. it was then pulled in favor of a good running stock 77 454. whats a fair price for this thing?

I couldn't sell my alum headed 468 for $2500, that was a turn key motor, could hear it run and made about 540 horse. It's hard to say, start at a grand, go from there.

$100, ill pick it up on my way to tenessee this sunday.

around here a complete rebuildable (non running) 454 goes for about $400-500

A rebuilder.....$500.

A runner.....$750.

A damn good runner.....$1000+.

I picked up a complete rebuildable 454 from ryanB. for $400. He had checked compression on all cylinders and it was all good, he was gonna just throw new gaskets on all around and run it, but he found something better. Anyway, yeah, complete, maybe running, rebuildable 454- $400.
