"BIG" small block

I was watching the Horsepower TV marathon yesterday and on one episode they built a 472 SBC. The block they used was not a standard block though. It had a raised deck and a few other mods I think, but being relatively inexperienced at this I was wondering what is the biggest ci. you can get out of a standard 350 block? I've kicked around a 383, but just wondering what else was out there.

GM Produced the 400 small block for some time.

The '06 Corvette Z06 with the LS7 is a modern production 427 small block.

I guess I was thinking about what could be built starting out w/ a 350 block. I would not want to use a 400 block. Too many issues there.

391 CUBIC INCHES IS ALMOST THE MAX YOU CAN GET FROM A 350 BLOCK. i CURRENTLY HAVE ONE OF THOSE.

Mines 388. A 350 bored .060 with the stroker crank (or 400 crank machined to fit). I think thats it. Next one I build I'm gonna start with a 400 block. Maybe build a 415 or 420. 400's are fine if you address the cooling areas. Ive seen many 400 motors in the 410 -420 cube range that make lots of power and work fine. Remember theres no replacement for displacement!!

I think about the max you can safely get out of a 350 block is .090 over, then stroke it w/ a 400 crank. the guy with 391 sounds right about right for a 400 crank at .090. I personally wouldn't go any more than .060 on a 350 block....

If you want any more than that and you'd have to step up to a 400 block.
