big wheel pedal fix?

BTW those are called push lock washers and quite a few hardware stores have them

thanks, knowing what they are called helps. Maybe I could try puting a couple in there.
An e clip could work, but it would probably have to be able to spin with the pedal so that might be tough to do.

Cut a groove where needed to the correct size of an E clip. Slide pedal on, insert E clip. Enjoy. Then it needs and engine mounted on the back.
This is the same thing I came in here to say. Easy to cut the groove when the pedal is off, then you slide it on when it's in place. The e-clip doesn't have to spin with the pedal if you put a larger diameter washer right next to it. Your push-lock washer would probably work. You could also use a snap ring, but the assembly would be harder. You could probably also drill a hole through the shaft and bend a small cotter pin through there, again with a washer next to it.

This was my next idea. A snap ring like mentioned would work pretty well if you could get it together, may not ever come back apart if you did.

Got it fixed... I think. It holds tight but I won't know for sure until the kiddo has a chance to put it through its paces.
I tried just getting a new push lock washer but a new one didn't hold either. I ended up using an E-clip.

I used a pipe cutter to mark a nice straight line around the shaft but the groove it created was too narrow for the e-clip to sit in. I widened it up with a dremmel and it held nicely.

I had to cut a hole in the backside of the pedal because the e-clip is a bit taller than the pushlock washer but once I did that the pedal seems to rotate freely so I think this one is solved!:waytogo:

Your welcome. I sugested this because the kid down the street came pushing his up 2 days after Christmas. Same fix for his.
