just did a quick search and I'm not finding too much on google. does anyone know if any of the other generation suburbans and blazers tanks (31 gal and 40 gal will fit and what needs to be done?

It can be done.

Some of the later model Burbs are very similar, but depending on which specific model you buy the filler neck sometimes need to be cut and re-welded.

You might even be able to cut then use a piece of fuel hose and a couple of clamps to rotate it without the welding if your tools are limited.

well, after some more configuring, I see that to fit a bigger tank (dont want to go deeper, just longer) I will have to remove the rear cross member. I will be making a new hitch mount from 3x3 box tubing. will this be adequate? or is the factory rear cross member required to keep the shackles mounts from twisting the frame?

it looks like the stock blazer tank is 29x17x14 and a 31 gal blazer or burb tank is 28.125x28.75x12.75

The rearmost factory crossmember is pretty flimsy, if you're building a receiver hitch style one to replace it you're going to be adding a lot more strength than was there originally.

On rear receiver hitch setups the trick is to design them so you don't obstruct the rear body mount bolt access.... you'll see what I mean when you start working on your own. Soon after you'll probably sneak over to my build thread to look at my photos again to see how I did it! :D:haha:
